howdy, thats what we were thinking but also when you pull the lower drive is there any tricks to getting it out because it WOULD not come out and it got dark so we quit for today and i dont beleive it was sealed good or something because there was definately some water in there......thanks
yeah it came down about an inch and wouldnt go any further we wiggled it and twisted it, but didnt want to force it to come off because neither me or my buddy are mechanics so i didnt wanna make it worse somehow
The only thing holding the yoke in there then is probably the gimbal bearing. There's probably some corrosion on the yoke shaft and it getting caught on the bearing.
If you got it out an inch or so you should be able to see the U-joints.
Are they all rusty?
You're probably going to need to replace them, the gimbal bearing, bellows, shift cable, bellows, etc...
Well, there's 2 ways. You can remove the shift cable at the engine, & pull on the cable to get it back into neutral. Or, remove the front anode & raise the shift rod.
i hear ya..................out
The only way that is going to work is if you are going to be able to get it on the shaft as it goes through the gimbal bearing.Try to squirt some PB Blaster inside there & let is soak for awhile.
You know, you're right. I've always pulled mine while it was in neutral. Now I feel bad for giving the guy bad advice. It really doesn't matter what gear it's in to remove it. (It's a Cobra) It just has to be in the same position when it goes back on.
