butch,
Cobras are simple, but only if you've lived with them since day one (grin).
When making adjustments, you need to turn the propshaft while shifting.

DHP

Idsled, have you seen the following website about the Cobra outdrive? Comprehensive summary of issues and solutions. 'Must' info for a cobra owner.

http://www.funkopolis.com:8080/~stuart/cobra/

p.s., I believe the cable recalls were for '88s and earlier, I think they had the new ones in '89s and on.

back again, when shifting by hand at the shift rod it acts like there are 2 nuetral shift detents which i know can't be right.guess i'll have to split the upper and lower cases.haven't done it before but here goes.can't afford to put it in the shop.thanks again butch.

Re: omc outdrive shift problems

butch, let us know what you find.My only guess at the moment is that reverse gear has moved back in the gearcase, towards the prop. But that is a Merc problem. With your Cobra, bolts would have to loosen, snap rings break, etc.
Did you have this problem before the cable work? Was the drive apart before this problem? If so,maybe the forward snap ring in the gearcase did not seat. That could do it.

DHP
