My friend has a 1981 omc 2.5 liter that has seized up. Will a 3.0 liter bolt in. Aren't they basicaly the same motor? Did anyone perform this swap?

Re: omc question?

It will work, the only minor thing I can think of is that the manifolds are a bit different on a 3.0, and may or may not exactly match where the riser meets the downpipe. Might work, might need some creative engineering.

If you go with a ~1990 or later 3.0 you will also need a new coupler and flywheel since the crank changed then. Pre-1990 should be fine with what you have.

That should be it.

Wellcraft
I would recomend this upgrade even if I had to do should mods. The 3.0 has alot more guts than the 2.5. It will be worth it!
