Hello all, I have a 1973 350 Chevy/Omc outdrive, I bought a thermostat housing from a Ford Omc set up. My question is on the ends where the hoses go to the exhaust manifolds have a real small opening, the engine (brand new) to me seems to be running a little warm, between 160/180, do all the housings come with such a small opening, can I drill it out bigger, will that cool the engine due to more water circulation thru engine, any help appreciated...thanks

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... Have ya changed the raw water Impeller,..??

That's Always the 1st place to look in an over-heat situation...

'n,... OMC has used a Bunch of different T-stat housings over the years,...
Most all are different, 'n the normal approach is to put back on, Exactly what was there...

Can ya post pictures of each,..??

Re: Omc thermostat housing

I know the outlets you are talking about. Mine are much smaller too. About the size of a pencil, I would say. I doubt thats where your extra heat is coming from.

EDIT: The holes in the outlets are about pencil size, not the casting itself. OK, maybe larger than a pencil, 3/8ths of an inch maybe?
