i've not had any overheat issues at all this year. temp has been real good. new impeller and housing over the winter. 3 year old manifold and riser, aftermarket. flushed after ea. use. water hose between the bellhousing and gimble housing is new and not kinked.
yesterday however. i was doing a little pm. only thing that could have effect on the cooling was i adj. the timing. off by 3*. and rolled the engine over w/o sparkplugs in it. just turning it over a few degrees at a time to lub the gimble brg. in different places. i did that w/o water flow.
so anyways. while setting the dist. timing. idling at 550ish. i overheated up to just under the red in my no number gauge.
anyone know how hot that is?
so far, not to many inspections. checked the tstat. boiled it in a pan and it's ok. no impeller fragments at the tstat. pulled feed hose off and seem to be getting a respectable flow.
since i feel like i should be hip. my question is this.
could low flow from my garden hose be my problem. i usually run on the muffs w/o anything else water wise on in the house. but yesterday, the gf got a load of wash in while i was running i think. my water pressure certainly goes down when the washer's filling. if that occurred while idling could that be a possible cause of my overheat?
after my inspections, i ran it on the hose again w/o issues.
only other thing that comes to my mind is perhaps a exhaust restriction. i know when i drain my manifold i usually have to unplug the drain hole for the scale that blocks it. perhaps that scale has worked it's way back to the riser?
should i be going and looking at my rubber parts since the overheat. flappers. impeller (which had low waterp ressure flow)...
i'm gonna see if it overheats here in a little bit again. the gf's gone so will have full water pressure.
anything else i should be going and looking at.... i was planing a river run this weekend. that ain't where i wanna get hosed at if that's where this is heading..
