I use wood flour for my PB needs. Thickens much faster in smaller quantities than cabosil, is a bit less toxic, spreads into the air much less easily, and when mixed it actually looks like peanut butter. Plus it's got some structural value.
When filling a large gap or on a particularly important structural part I add in chopped fibers (1/4 inch or so) for extra strength.
I've used milled fibers as a thickener too, and they're almost as good as wood flour (milled are the fibers that come as powder, not short strands).
I don't use cabosil for much. I have a big bag of microbubbles that gets used for lightweight putty like fairing or where strength isn't an issue, or I might need to sand.
