Operating Temperature

I've combed through my engine's owner's manual, checked every spec listed in the Seloc, and read gobs of posts here, to no avail.

I have a Mercruiser 488r (aka 170), and I'd like to know what the proper operating temperature range is for it. Most of the time she runs right at 160*F, but it gets up to 180*F after about 2 hours at 3500rpms. Hasn't run hotter (yet).

Just wanting to know at what temp I need to worry, and the books aren't helping....

Re: Operating Temperature

Those temps are absolutely normal ( if thats the correct temp for the thermostat you have installed) and you have nothing to worry about. 20 deg F after 2 hours of running almost WOT. Relax and enjoy your perfectly normal operational 470. You are one of the lucky ones...

PS

Ditch the Seloc and get the REAL manual. This is for the 85 and up but its a start...

Re: Operating Temperature

I found (in the manual from Alpheus) a little note that the normal operating temp is between 165* and 200*.
