Operation and/or Service Manual for 1988 115 "Power Trim" 6cyl two stroke?

Greetings. Re-joining the forum after a long absence. None of y'all tell my bride that I'm back in the business.

Bought a toy off of Craigslist and could use some help. 18' bass boat had been sitting outside for a couple of years. Had to air up the tires to bring it back to my shop. Needs new carpet and upholstery. Hull is sound and looks good mechanically. Didn't start the engine but I'm hopeful. How could I not buy it for $800?

Haven't started the motor yet because I'd like to drain the gas, clean the carbs, lube it, and check the hydraulic fluid before cranking it up. Also thought I'd pull the plugs and do a compression test. Probably squirt some oil in the cylinders afterwards. Anything else I should check or do before starting it?

Anyone have a link for the Operation and Maintenance manual? And/or for the Service Manual? The sticky links do not include the 6cylinder 115 two-stroke (at least I can't find it). Haven't been able to find a reputable source for soft copies of the manuals. Hoping someone will take pity on me...

keep in mind with a 32 year old boat, you may be in for a full restoration.

Bass boats of the 80's had shiny and glittery exteriors over some really bad fiberglass quality.

Thanks, Scott. I may order a hard copy but I'm looking for a soft copy of both manuals. Don't mind paying for them. Great links at http://www.hedges-uk.com/boat/Merc/outboards/2-stroke/2-stroke/ BUT, no 6cylider 2 stroke. Also checked https://www.manualslib.com but again, no joy on my particular year/model.

I'm not planning to completely restore it. Going to fix it up and use it this fall. Then, on to Craigslist she goes. Really want an old Whaler with a stand-up center console.

you wanted a reputable source. so Brunswick is the factory. that is THE source.

if you want to just view them, look in the library at boatinfo.no

Near as I can tell Brunswick won't sell me soft copies of either. And, no hard copy of the Service Manual. Apologies if I'm missing something.

Good to be able to look at the service manual on boatinfo.no. Thanks. Would still like to have a local copy (FYI, Adobe flash is a security nightmare so I try to stay away from it).

Thanks to everyone for their responses. I really appreciate you all taking the time to help. I must be missing something so I'd like to ask for a little more help. Perhaps I'm missing something about Mercury nomenclature or about the production run years.

My motor is a 115hp, SIX cylinder, 2-stroke, "Power Trim", "Oil Injected" (but, doesn't seem to have an oil reservoir).

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a Service Manual that includes my motor. There are indeed lots of manuals for sale on eBay and other places. But, I don't see one that includes my specific serial number and/or motor.

The manuals I have found googling and on eBay fall into one or more of the following categories:
- printed before 1988
- include only FOUR cylinder 115hp 2-strokes
- are advertisements for CD's or downloads that DO NOT specify exactly what motors are covered

So, I am hoping that someone can help understand what terminology to search for (i.e., specific Mercury/Brunswick manual part number) or share a link with me that points to the correct manual.

Thanks again!

Screen Shot 2019-07-29 at 1.26.58 PM.png RTFM...or, RTFS(Stickie)...

I did find the following on one of the sub-forum stickies... So, I can now search for the particular manual part number (90-86134--4/1291) which includes serial numbers above 4112635.

I could still use a bit of tutoring on how to refer to my engine when I'm communicating with others. Is there a class or model name? Are parts looked up with serial number? Thanks!

Serial number is what you go by.

Post yours here and someone will find your manual.

The early oil injected motors used a res and pump inside the boat to mix the gas and oil.
Called an "Auto-Blend".
If you don't have it, just premix your oil and gas.

You can search for parts by serial number on the Mercury site.

Parts for some of the 80's vintage motors are not being supported by the factory any longer.

Regarding the "Auto-Blend", the pump and reservoir are in the boat? That makes more sense. I didn't see anyplace inside the motor where there was evidence of a tank being removed.

If it has the " autoblend " unit you should throw it away as far as you can.-----Not a reliable unit.-----A manual for a 1985 model is the same as the last year of production.-----A great smooth running motor if you maintain it.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I bought a manual off eBay. Mercury/Mariner "90-86134--4 1291" and it is great so far. Since then I have sorted out an air-leak in the fuel (it was inside the tank) and pulled the power head to re-tap a broken bolt for the water jacket cover. Just about to re-install the power head (waiting on a gasket) and then replacing the impeller. I'm happy to help anyone with my small body of knowledge!

How has the motor done for you? I just got one myself, I have to do the timing on it, but she turns over fine just paid 800 for boat and motor? Good deal?
