You're gunna need...
Caobosil (a quart or 2), 1/4" chopped milled fibers(1 lb), VE Resin (I'm guessin a gallon maybe 2) 1 yard of 1.5 oz CSM and 1 yard of 1708 cloth.
These guys...http://www.fibreglast.com/category/Polyester_Resins?gclid=CKCs9PyUurACFVPftgodw2qx7w
are in Ohio. Check their prices compared to www.uscomposites.com They're in Florida and shipping might be less from Ohio to Illinois but the Fibreglast resin prices might be more. Just shop around and get the best prices you can. How big is that hole??? Golf Ball??

Yes, the hole its self is about the size of a golf ball I'd say. The entire area is about 6 inch across.

What about the gel coat? What would I need to finish that? There are a some other nicks around the boat I wanted to fill in. Can I just get a quart of pure white gelcoat and use that? I wanted to order up all the supplies that I am going to need today.

Yep, white gelcoat will do it if you're not concerned with an exact match. You can mix in some cabosil with the gelcoat to get a past to fill scratches and gouges or get some glass bubbles to make sanding easier.

I think the glass bubbles will change the color of the gel though.. cabosil is best.

BTW .. VE resin is Vinyl Ester resin. .. sorry for the late reply.

Placed the order today. I got the vinyl ester resin, thanks YD.

The gelcoat came unwaxed. They offered surfacing wax to help it sand easier. I also ordered 2.5 qts of cabosil too so I guess I will have the option to use either. Recomendations?

So the supplies are going to be in today. I was just wondering if I could get a little more in depth instructions to follow.
From what I gather, mix up some peanut butter to fill in the hole and the most damaged area strong again.
Then 1 layer of csm, then 1 layer of 1708.
Followed by a few more layers of csm.
Then lay down some gelcoat.
Should I add some cabosil to the resin for the glass to try and thicken it up since I will be working upside down? Where should I start as far as grit to sand it down? Should I sand down the peanut butter before applying glass over it?
Thanks.

I dont know why but for some reason my subcriptions are not updating like they should..anyways here we go :) .

Yuppers .. just fill the cavity flush with your feathered glass though.

Then 1 layer of csm, then 1 layer of 1708.

Yes and no.. you want to do 1 layer of csm .. then how many ever layers of 1708 it takes to build up to Fair ( flush ). Then top it off with mat.

You will know about how many 1708 it will take when your cutting your glass and kinda hold the whole stack up to the repair to see how thick its gonna build for ya. .. then start wetting out your glass.

Should I add some cabosil to the resin for the glass to try and thicken it up since I will be working upside down?

No .. just resin. ( * trick .. layup up to 5-6 layers of 1708 on some masking paper starting with your largest piece ( mat side up ) down to your smallest piece ..then slap the whole thing up to the repair using your gloved hands to kinda rub it stuck up .. then remove the paper and bubble roll out )) ;) ..

Where should I start as far as grit to sand it down?

24-36 grit on a grinder to get the shape almost there..then switch to 40 grit on a 6" DA sander ( I use 40g on an 8" soft pad..but you can really mess up fast if you dont know how to use it ).

Should I sand down the peanut butter before applying glass over it?

Yup .. pack your pb in there ..let kick..sand down then glass. You dont want the heat from the filler to transfer to your layup .. its too thick for that. Just get 24 grit on your 4.5" grinder and smooth it out .. acetone wipe and goto town :) .

No problem man :)

YD.

PS. If your not getting a response from anyone .. either bump it ( might trigger the Settings thing for me ) or PM me.
