Re: Our recent purchase of SS 16 ft Starcraft

The balance of our trip was to relax and explore more of the area, which included road trips and a wonderful boat trip on a local lake. We camped at nice spot with caretakers to look after the sites, swam at a remote dock that we had all to ourselves, enjoyed some wine/beer and fine food like... fire roasted hot dogs. Oh yeah, I go all out for my sweetheart only the best wieners will do;)

The boat trip also was to give the yammie a good rinse to wash out salt water, oh and to rinse out our 83' johnson 9.9 too.

The SS performed flawlessly, especially after I moved the transom bracket pin another hole back so it was not plowing water anymore. I was having a pull to the right that I had previously adjusted the trim tab hoping to correct. Now I can let go of the steering wheel and she just goes in a straight line.

Our Starcraft has helped us create some incredible memories this year, especially with family and friends:):)

Congrats on a successful camping trip & on the YES to your the down on bended knee. At least you didn't try the: 'I think we ran out of gas, now what?" routine ..... Once, just the once, and yeah, I learned that lesson fast, really fast.

Excellent trip, hope the fishing w/ your son has equally memorable moments. Bad day fishing, way better then good day working....

Thanks, Guys for the congrats...definately a big day and weekend.

No problem sharing info about the area B2, it is the opposite of where you live... limited sunshine and tons of rain!!

JBCurt00, had an excellent day with my son. He caught several large fish lost most of them, we landed some, and he jumped into the driver's seat to learn how to handle the SS and the GPS/Sounder. Weather was flat calm with straight sunshine... that fact equals sunburn for him. (yes I had sunscreen on-board, but I forgot to offer it right away)

GLG, it was good chatting with you and hope we hook up soon for a boat outing...

Smiles all the way around,
Rusty

Lol. sometimes it is good to travel with wife...especially on holidays!! Glad you enjoyed our pics B2. We have been experiencing some of your weather up here...HOT up to 31 degrees Celsius, but after today it is back down to normal temps. Yes, I have been jealous of your sunshine and heat when we were contemplating using our SS on the roads to get around up here during our rainy season, lol.

Retirement? Wow, you folks are lucky down there your gov is letting you retire. Our gov just raised legal retirement age to 67, yup we can not collect pension until 67 if we are 53 and younger as of this year. Naturally gov personnel can collect their pension at 55 years of age!! :eek:That's only fair right? LOL, all one can do s just laugh at this... ummm stuff the gov is feeding us.

Thanks CBK, our bottom fishing trips have been good to us and the camping adventures as well. You must get into some great fishing down your way though? Glad to hear(read) our fish pics bring back fishing memories to you and thanks for sharing. Marriage proposal on a SC...lol, I know that I did it, but it seems kinda blurry to me now that I reflect on it. Was a awesome location though.

Re: Our recent purchase of SS 16 ft Starcraft

My Fiancee and I attended a get-together with friends on Sat. afternoon. Then loaded up boat and camping supplies to meet up with other friends up island. We arrived late at night and after coffee in the morning I drove 2 hours home and back to retrieve boat key

One would think that after forgetting the boat key just 2 days previously with my son's boating adventure that I wouldn't do that again for a while... well, I did.

Arriving back at campsite we took off fishing after dropping in crab traps for a 2 hour soak. weather was great and the water was flat calm. I played the guide/captain for my friend and my sweetheart and they were both rewarded with dandy fish. We picked up traps and took back 4 nice dungeness crabs.

We were able to launch/retrieve our SS right there on the beach, which is a priceless ability of these Starcrafts.

Here I am walking the boom sticks out to the boat. As the local loggers are not using the booming grounds, we could tie the boat here while letting the traps soak for a couple of hours.

Re: Our recent purchase of SS 16 ft Starcraft

Congrats on another great looking trip. The pix of fishing w/ your son are great too!

If your tow rig has a lockable glovebox or center console, after 2 key grab trips probably even if they don't, I'd be inclined to stow a key.............

I find myself checking several times for keys to actually be on my person at home & work when I head out. Sometimes house keys are locked at work (w/ office keys attached) and sometimes work's vehicle keys are at home when I try to take the company truck at work  duh....

At least I've never been locked out & keyless out of town.....

CBKev- We do try enjoy ourselves, I try not to focus or highlight the...negative aspects of daily living, at least on the forum...
These adventures come with a price, a day prep and a day clean-up, but overall the this price is more than worth it. We are ever so thankful for finding this site with all its info and allowing us an informed decision while deciding on a good replacement for the little 14 ft tinny. We easily could have ended up with a 14 ft grumman open tincan boat as the price was good, except that the buyer phoned us the next day after agreeing on a price and asking for more money before signing over the paperwork... whew!!

JBCurt00
- That's a good idea, Bud of putting a spare in the tow vehicle. I am planning on putting a spare key on my main key set and hoping not forgetting the boat key again...Lol Everytime we go away somewhere I always wonder what we are leaving behind this time. I believe there is a code somewhere, either on the throttle control or the outboard that I need to order a spare key with? I'll have to check in my bookmarks where I saved that info at.

Re: Our recent purchase of SS 16 ft Starcraft

Yep, ebay

Or if it's got the #, you might get a locksmith to cut you a new 1. Replacement switch will come w/ 2 if there is any indication that you'll soon need to replace it anyway.

My Dodge Dakota key is so worn it hardly has any teeth left on it  But I have no problems starting it, stopping it and can pull the key in any position, including running. Handy to leave running in the winter, manually lock the doors & run in for a gal of milk or whatever ;)

If I can get the other stuff going on w/ it sorted, I'll replace the switch. Else until there's a hint of a problem, I'll keep using it.............

Hey Jim the journey has been great... nope we are not married yet Pal. I just asked her to married me and she said yes. But I suspect your right, lol, the SS had alot to do with it.

This fall/winter has taken a twist in that I am going to college to learn a new trade, heavy duty mechanic for 9 months. The Alberta oil patch, Island logging companies, and northern BC companies are all looking for skilled labour. I still have it in the back of my mind to strip down the SS for a complete restoration... time and money will dictate this schedule. I am envious of the completed projects on the forum. But we have had an excellant time with many folks since spring. However, we are down to the last week before putting the SS away for a while. Hoping to head down to Seattle to visit with friends for a few days and maybe 1-2 outing on the boat and then... nose to the grind stone!!
