Can anyone tell me what outdrive i have? It has a mercruiser tag but the model #/Serial # is missing. This is my first boat and i am going to restore it.
I have a manual and it shows models I, I-R, II, II-TR, II-TRS, I-MR. They all look similar to me from the crude drawings in the book.

74 thompson. What is a IMP? Excuse my ignorance.....

I did stumble across a pdf file in Adults only section under mercruiser misc. In the pdf it shows my outdrive as a MC-I. Would this be the Model-I in my mercruiser manual?

Looks like a 1 drive. But hard to tell with the swim step in the way and the drive full up.
Also, what engine is in it? Any numbers on the engine? Look for a tag over the starter if a GM engine.

bt doctur,
Yes there is a thing that looks like a lifting eye on top of the outdrive.

I agree with Don, looks like my I drive.
I.M.P. is just another old boat manufacturer.Mine is an aztec.
Hey, anybody know what I.M.P. stands for? I have every piece of paperwork that came with the one I have when it was originally sold from the owners manuel to the riggers parts pull list and I can't seem to find out what the I.M.P. means. It's no listed on anything.

That is an 888 (Ford 188 hp)
The good news, is the 888 only used the 1 drive. Makes it real easy.

Re: Outdrive Identification without ID tag

Hey, thanks!
I knew it was in Iola, and a division of Apeco, at least back in '79.
Thanks ErieRon.

No problem...I have an Imperial (ASI) that is often confused with the IMP, that's why I know. The IMP was a much more robust vessel. My Dad had a 23' IMP Inca (70's vintage) and it was a good boat.
