Got it all back together and started it up.on the hose.Ran awesome in neutral.
Is it OK to shift into gear while on the hose? I never do that as I was afraid it would mess something up.
I have just read through this thread with great interest. Glad you had good service from SEI. My reason for posting is a word of caution about shifting the outdrive into gear while on land/on the hose. . . If the propeller is on the outdrive, be aware of the dangers to people (especially children) and pets that may be in the area.
If the propeller is off, then a much safer scenario.
You going to give it a water test before winter sets in?
I have the day off tomorrow and it isn't going to rain. I will adjust the shift cable and try again..That noise is normally the shift cable is not adjusted correctly. It is not moving far enough to fully engage
I think the Alpha is a 2 cable system like the OMC Cobra. So not only do you have to adjust the lower cable that goes from the engine shifter bell crank to the out drive, but you also have to check the adjustment of the cable that goes from your remote control to the shifter bell crank. You need to have equal throw in both fwd and rev. Sounds like you're not getting enough travel in rev.
TL;DR.... but if it works and is fully engaging, leave it...
