Re: Outfitting a 14' lake cruiser with safety gear/weight questions

FWIW, here is a picture (for demonstration purposes only of course-yes I am aware that two of the adults don't have lifejackets on) of the 12' (same 5' 2" beam) version of the boat I'm building:

Also, I've decided to go with the 16' instead. It doesn't cost that much more to build, but is obviously roomier and will carry an additional 150 lbs. Designer confirms that when loaded with the weight I had listed the boat will draft 5" and operate safely as designed with approximately 17" of freeboard. If anyone wants to comment on the safety equipment (things that are missing/should be changed/upgraded/etc...) please let me know. Hoping to start the build by the end of summer and work on the boat through the fall and winter for an early Spring launch. Here is a picture of the 16':

I think you should ask your buddies over at the other site, the only ones you seem to believe.

After all, you posted this after the above photo, in part, YotaTruck:

Impressive! If I posted that photo over there they'd be calling the Coast Guard thinking I was suggesting cruising around like that  In any event, that makes me all the more confident.

Again, not questioning your design-just asking for some friendly advice over there-what a mistake that was 8O Ask and ye shall receive:

Give 'em hell!

I'll post the question I was going to ask over there here so that more enlightened folks can comment...

Some people have a head like a rock---- that functions as capable of comprehension as a rock. Guess the answer on that insurance policy is "no".....

well there was a guy looking for a cheap boat that would hold 9 people; looks like you have one in the first picture.
that 16' has nice high freeboard and could serve you well for your family use if you have good operating skills and experience and know how to load it for various conditions.
