Pages slow to load on iboats

Hello, new to this forum and still just getting my feet wet.
This site runs very slow for me. When I click on a topic, the iboat tool bar and the add show up right away, but the rest of the screen stays gray for about ten seconds before the thread listing, or anything else for that matter, show up.
Is there some preference that I can setup that would help, or is it just my computer? It doesn't appear to be a noticeable problem on other sites with similar "looking" forums.
Thanks,
Don

Yes you are right.

It is the nature of this beast. I have DSL and it is like that and much shorter on my office T1

It's not you or the settings..... it's slow as compared to many.

Everything but this website loads instantly for me, same issue you have.

Just a huge site, lots to upload from their domain I suppose.

If you are using internet explorer you will find that Mozilla Firefox is much faster not only for iboats but for almost all web browsing. The service is free. I switched about a year ago and have never gone back.

14.1 seconds with Internet Explorer 7.0 with cable and wireless connection. 6.1 seconds with Firefox.

If you get Firefox you will never go back to IE.

This site is very quick compared to others I visit. You should have been here when the last software version was here. What a slug it was!

Re: Pages slow to load on iboats

Ok, nice to know I'm not alone.
I have a suggestion - but first I might add that by no means am I computer savvy. In fact, I have to "steel time" just to sit here now. But... my observation so far is that this is a large site with vast amounts of postings, some of which are extremely valuable and others that are... less so.
Here is my suggestion:
If it's the "vast amount" of postings that make this site slow, then maybe there should be a way of "rating" a particular post or thread in such a way that it's popularity makes it more likely to be available. In other words, if it's not popular and saved, then it eventualy gets "bumped", like Tivo. Tivo even lets you know, with differing colored dots, when a saved listing is on the "short list" to get bumped.
I'm new to this site and I already think it's great. I love the variety of topics available and the amount of expertise within. But... If it's the volume of postings that make navigating slow, do (we) need to keep *everything* ?
Wow, I think I plodded into a subject area I know little about. Go ahead, chime in and set me straight.

I use Firefox because I like tabs (I don't like IE7) and some add-ons (namely ForecastFox enhanced). The site loads pretty quick for me. I tried it in IE6 and it's a little slower but not much slower.

Good for you SBN. I like to see people experimenting and finding something they like other than the "default".

I like Opera pretty well.
Have had it for a while and use it ever now and again.
I like the auto reload feature it has that you can set for each site.

HOLLY COW!!!!
I'm now using Mozilla Firefox and.. DAYAM is this fast! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was close to giving up on this forum due to all of the waiting I was doing; and I have very little time to waste. In fact off I go to my other job as "soccer dad" (actually its ballet today).
Thanks again *thinking out loud* "and I got this from boating site, go figure!"
