Re: Parking the SUVs
QC may agree with you on this, but I sure don't.
Back to the topic--we were sold a bill of goods with the SUV. People on this forum are one of the few groups who can justify the operation of such a wasteful vehicle, since we use them to pull boats. However, the majority of SUVs were sold to people who didn't need them, and who simply wanted to fit in with a trend. From what I've seen, the majority of SUVs were used as single-passenger commute vehicles. That's just a shame.
The only conspiracy here is a conspiracy by American auto makers to sell us poorly designed, dangerous, and wasteful vehicles instead of getting with the program and designing something better.
I have two SUVS that can both carry nine. I have fours kids and we are constantly running carpools for their sports, to school, etc.. I have a need for them so anyone who bashes SUV drivers needs to open their eyes.
I pay rougly $700/month in gas. If I could drive a smaller more economical vehicle, I would. Not becasue of the hysteria that is going on, but just because of efficiency and being a good steward.
We are dependent on the high priced gas for two reasons.
1) Environmental regulations
2) Environmental regulations
Taking the first one.. Environmental regulations - ours hands are bound on developing new sources of oil. We have other countries taking resources right in our own backyards, but we've got unelected people who think they are smarter than the average american making decisions for us.
Taking the second - Environmental regulations (I know they are the same - its just for effect) - Refining - we have 40+ differenent blends of fuel. A glitch in the system can cause local or national problems. At the very least we ought to settle on a limited few blends which would allow us to make better use of our refining capacity. Second, the regulations make it H3ll to create a new refinery. I wish I could use my vote to influence the environmental policy, but unfortunately these elitists have taken over the mind and hands of the nation.
Since the economy runs on oil, it behooves us to ensure we give it the fuel it needs. We need to invest in conservation and alternatives without the gov't mandates that take away our freedoms and constrict our economy.
