I heard on the news today that people are already parking the gas sucking SUVs by the thousands cause of gas prices. I wonder what the dealers plan to do with the ones they have. They sure as (censored) arent going to sell them now..........unless they almost give them away.

Yeah, as somebody who drives a Bronco, I can definitely feel the pain right now with gas prices going through the stratosphere.

But hey, at least I don't have a car payment.

Yep, my observations tell me it is true. I am seeing the used car lots filling up with late model trucks and SUV's. I for one have a 3/4 ton, 454 Suburban that has been sitting growing moss for the last year. Just yesterday, I took the insurance off of it.

The shame is that this is all happening because of the man made global warming hysteria as well as the sabre rattling of a couple tin horn despots.

The other shame is that the American public has sucked up to this and let the Sierra Club, et al, dictate to our impotent politicians when and where we can go after our own resources.

This is nothing more than a power grab and money making scheme by a few elites. We are not short of oil, we are not creating the little climate change that is ocurring and we are not poisoning our environment.

America better wake up or we are going to be cleaning horse poop off the streets while we try to eat our shoe leather boiled in water. The Government cannot legislate technological advances any more than they mandated or created the miraculous advent of the internal combustion engine!

Re: Parking the SUVs

In '05 we bought my wife a '03 Expedition with 23000 miles for $26,000. We owe $13,000 on it now. We noticed that the '07 and '08 Expis are cheap so we were gonna trade hers in. Shes got alot of miles on it but otherwise mint. They wanted to give us $4800. If ever there was a time that I could cuss in public and my wife wouldn't kill me for it this was it. What was even sadder to me was we were looking at an '08 with more options than our '03 and 8 miles on it that was $23,878, more than 2,000 less than we paid for our other one.

On the farm I have to have a truck. Theres nothing you can do about it but suck it up. I have to have a tractor. Same story. My and my brother run a "business" also- "Two Brothers Recycling". Basicly we sell scrap iron/metal. Gotta have a truck for that too. Every load we take to the yard costs us at least $75 in gas. I just bought me a 94 F250 with the PowerStroke. It gets about 18 unloaded and around 13 pulling about 9000 pounds. Deisel is higher than gas but I was only getting about 8 mpg before so I'm better off finacially. The deisel sure pulls alot better than my old wheezing gas motor too.

Gentleman,

I cant help but wonder how gas prices got this way. I beleive in america we have a law wich limits the set price on a product. I can remember in 1992 i was paying $1.16 a gallon for gas and thought whew, that is high. I started driving when gas was $.85 cent a gallon and i wonder what the future holds for my kids. I am new to this forum and i have been browsing through and just reading alot. I have just purchased a 1985 capri, bayliner, das all i know, i dont know if it is a 1950 or any of that jazz, i know it has a little room under the front. I search the internet for forums cause they help me with my hobbies. Soon as i fugure out how to start a thread, i will post some questions.
thanks

Re: Parking the SUVs

I know I just used part of my tax return to buy a good used car, and parking the suv for when I want to tow the boat, or haul something.... Now both of my vehicles are paid for outright.

Just filled up the suv to the tune of $85 bucks yesterday. Ugh

QC may agree with you on this, but I sure don't.

First off, what's the connection between gas prices and concern about greenhouse gasses? I'm not seeing it. I understand that some of the price increase is due to "sabre rattling" but much of it is due to inflation, and much is also related to simple economics--we'll pay what they ask because we have to.

Secondly, groups like the Sierra Club and other activists groups have a minute amount of power in lobbying compared to oil companies, and even if we were allowed to drill in more ecologically sensitive areas in the US, I can guarantee that gas prices would continue to climb.

Back to the topic--we were sold a bill of goods with the SUV. People on this forum are one of the few groups who can justify the operation of such a wasteful vehicle, since we use them to pull boats. However, the majority of SUVs were sold to people who didn't need them, and who simply wanted to fit in with a trend. From what I've seen, the majority of SUVs were used as single-passenger commute vehicles. That's just a shame.

The only conspiracy here is a conspiracy by American auto makers to sell us poorly designed, dangerous, and wasteful vehicles instead of getting with the program and designing something better.

Apparently they thought they needed them and that is the only thing that matters. This is a free country with a free market, if you want or need a truck or SUV you ought to be able to buy one without having to justify it some nosy busy body.

If I was going to be a pest I would post: Where do I get my SUV buying permit? Oh, wait, they're giving them away, so maybe I can get away without the permit just this once? But since I am a kiss arse, I won't. Carry on . . . :p :D Love you guys, even you Spinner . . . OK, TD too . . .

For somebody that comes from the supposed open-minded side, you sure make a lot of judgements. Who are you decide who "needs" something and whether or not it's "shameful"? Don't be so hateful.

With the way things are right now. The OPEC cartel make Pablo Escobar and the Medellin cartel looks like saints. I remember everybody wanted Escobar dead but funny I don't remember he caused a recession and forced us to give up our truck and suv.

I have two SUVS that can both carry nine. I have fours kids and we are constantly running carpools for their sports, to school, etc.. I have a need for them so anyone who bashes SUV drivers needs to open their eyes.

I pay rougly $700/month in gas. If I could drive a smaller more economical vehicle, I would. Not becasue of the hysteria that is going on, but just because of efficiency and being a good steward.

We are dependent on the high priced gas for two reasons.
1) Environmental regulations
2) Environmental regulations

Taking the first one.. Environmental regulations - ours hands are bound on developing new sources of oil. We have other countries taking resources right in our own backyards, but we've got unelected people who think they are smarter than the average american making decisions for us.

Taking the second - Environmental regulations (I know they are the same - its just for effect) - Refining - we have 40+ differenent blends of fuel. A glitch in the system can cause local or national problems. At the very least we ought to settle on a limited few blends which would allow us to make better use of our refining capacity. Second, the regulations make it H3ll to create a new refinery. I wish I could use my vote to influence the environmental policy, but unfortunately these elitists have taken over the mind and hands of the nation.

Since the economy runs on oil, it behooves us to ensure we give it the fuel it needs. We need to invest in conservation and alternatives without the gov't mandates that take away our freedoms and constrict our economy.
