So please explain how I picked up a pint of water in a 6 gal plastic can standing upright holding about .5gal of fuel that was to be used in a snowblower!
I can even forward a picture of the container with the gas and water still mixed if you like.
ethanol separation. part of the fuel tank testing for OPEI is to let the ethanol separate out for 14 days, drop the temp to freezing, then impact the tank.
No, you never reuse a filter. When you dump a filter some of the trapped particles could flow out and rest on the outlet side of the filter.if i remove that filter after a trip, dump it out, don't find water, is it ok to continue to use that filter?
that is what i was thinking also. it just seems like a constant gamble with the solid metal ones. is the fuel i just bought clean or dirty? is that bowl full and about to start sending water to my engine? i guess no more than they cost i will just change every couple trips and hope for the best. about all i can doNo, you never reuse a filter. So far you have found NO water. There is no real reason to expect to find any more.
Instead of constantly replacing Good Filters. Take a spare or two along.
Don't replace until you suspect there might be a problem.
Even with the clear bowl, your not going to see anything beside water.i will definitely be replacing every trip until i see a clean filter. just trying to decide what a good interval after that is.
you say don't replace until i suspect something and that is my question. without the clear bowl the only way i will know is when my engine starts acting up and i don't wont to be back in this position.
Maybe once you have a clean fuel system install an in-line filter before the separator. Maybe a large clear plastic one. You're checking/cleaning your carb filter too? Providing it's not injected, I haven't read all the posts....

Robeward when you siphoned out did you use the tank fuel pickup and most importantly did you raise the front of the boat way up and give it a good old shake before hand?
By 'way' up I mean tilting the drive and raising the front until something at the rear is touching the ground.
You need to concentrate any water to the back of the tank where the pickup is located.
Ayuh,.... I happened to have the housin' for a Mack 2ndary fuel filter kickin' 'round, so I bought the filter,...
I think it's 5 or 10 micron, 'n holds 'bout a gallon,...
If ya want,... Just pump the 1st 5 or 10 gallons out, 'n into whatever yer throwin' it away in,...
After that, there's no reason to pump off into the barrel,..
Right back into the tank, still strains the fuel, through the filter,...
Mine's alot simpler than that video,..
My pump is like that one, only I put long wires, 'n spring clips on the ends, no switch, just hook it to power,...
No pretty board mount either,...
Just a pump, with hooks, a filter housin' with hooks, 'n hoses in between,...
our carb does not have a filter built in. at the time our only filter was the fuel/water. we are installing an inline filter now, at least until we get the trash gone. the carb is an edlebrock 1409
