8-10 hours of gentle use? You have go to be kidding me?
If the man did the job right, just beat on it and it should survive very nicely.
If something is going to go wrong have it show now, not later.
Think of this way. How many people buy a brand new boat and treat it gently for 8-10 hours? No one does, you have new parts in the lower end. Same thing isnt it?
No offense to member Hawker, but it should be ready to go if the man did his job right.

ummmmm NOOOOOO 8-10 hrs of gentle use is a VERY good ideal.... New parts should be broken in gently... Can make the difference between a 400 hr unit and a 3000 hr unit

Just because some people are careless and abuse equipment is no reason to ignore break in time....

Doesn't mean you can't run the boat at speed but avoid full throttle starts, and sustained wot runs... also best to avoid water sports for the first few hrs.

I have to agree with Hawker and SOTW. The lower has some new parts and the 8-10 hours of gentle use will bed the new parts with the old parts. No matter how good the mechanic is, he can't make new parts seasoned parts. That's the reason for the gentle use. IMHO

And the computers in the motor tell the dealers that and no warranty.

arghhhh. boat parts prices. take a starter bolt, stern drive unit. ive paid $1000.00 to get one removed & replaced. They aint cars. pull the engine to get to the bolt....
the starter, same mechanical unit as goes in the car , but, its sealed, no sparks to ignite gasoline fumes in your closed bildge. so you pay double on the shelf. again you cant climb under the boat to install it, so here we go, double the labor rate. lay your face on the engine block, reach down under in the slime and feel your way around....
Marine grade parts on the shelf? your kidding me right? same day or next day delivery, whoops, add $29.95 for shipping and handling to your tab.
factor in most boats on the water in small town America are at least 10 or 15 years old. 2 strokes were replaced by 4 strokes, mercruiser is on its what, 5th generation of drives? remnember most boat shops are small ventures, not having huge storage rooms to stock parts. plus parts are typicaly make & model specific. its just not feasable to wearhouse parts in house.
and the 'boat factor'. you like everyone else, bought the boat knowing full well that a boat is simply a hole in the water that you throw money into. the day you bought it, those visions of you crusing along, wind in your face, made it one of the best days of your life.... now, the whining and griping over repair costs, the hours spent maintaining and cleaning it, but alas, dont worry, your next best day will come, @ the day you sell the boat and watch some other guy drive off with his new hole in the water into which he will toss money....

OP here, once again Repairs have been completed (but not yet tested by me) they said they tested on the Dyno Machine and said it looked good..the original quote for job was $1068.00 after I bought parts and job was done the final bill was (with my parts) $719.35..so did I rip him off? did he rip me off? I think we both made out pretty OK on this one..but I still appericiate your ideas on break in time..thx to all.
