Recently, a member posted a thread here, who made the pawl springs for this model motor. If someone could let me know who he is, I would like to purchase a few sets.

I found a workaround at the local hdwr. Same diameter spring, but too long. I just cut 'em down, bent new ends, and they work fine. I called a marina to order some a few years back and they were available, but WAY expensive, so I made my own.

I've made them from stainless guitar strings...

Cool trick. What kind of guitar do you have/play? Guitars are my first love.

Cool. I found the forum, where a guy described how to make them.

I may also explore the option of retro-fitting the starter assembly, like I did on my Zephyr. There, I just replaced the pulley, with that from a 1954 Johnson 5.5hp (376377) and I mounted the ratchet (202111) in place of the older starter pawl assembly. I had to shim the ratchet up .100, but it worked like a million bucks.

The earlier JW's may have the hardware that will work to retro-fit my HD.

From what I see, it just takes the .016 guitar string and each string will make about 9 springs.
