People digging up old threads.....

Hey Mods!

I've noticed that more old threads are being dug up, and subsequently locked. A real waste of time and effort on everyone's part.

I think the reason people reply to posts from as far back as 2007 is because of the "Similar Threads" window at the bottom of a thread. People just click on similar threads and don't pay attention to how old it is. I am guilty of having done this before.

I suggest the "Similar Threads" window be closed. Would save people from responding to old threads, and save you the time of locking them.

Just a thought.

A more likely source is google. It don't care how old the thread is as long as it has the words.

My suggestion is to write a little ditty that will autolock any thread older than a set amount. The setting could vary by forum. It would just be a batch program run at night for maintenance.

We do that all the time maintaining accounting or manufacturing tracking systems.

I think we just need to post this in every forum, and penalize those who ignore it.

We Mods agreed to delete the offending post(s) and send the thread back into the archives. That is what should happen, not a lock.

I like j_martin's idea, but I don't know how to do it and I don't know how to get mod agreement on what threads that have been looooong running should be exempt and what age should lock the others up.

Finally, Rule #10 forbids this discussion, so it is ended.
