Greetings! We are photo addicted (even if you do not admit it in public) on iboats. Too often we see NOTHING or the dreaded "Little Red X"

Hopefully, I will try to clear up some photo woes. I am not a technical writer but, I will give it a shot at staying simple.

I use:
Photobucket.com
and other's use:
Mypictures.com
my wife uses myimagehosting.com
friends use imagestation.com, flickr.com, snapfish.com, and there are many more FREE photo hosting sites.

A photo hosting site is a place out in the internet world where you can store photos for free. Some sites limit your storage.... it's all a personal preference.

I will explain the site I am most familiar with Photobucket.com

I have a free account and when you establish one you can upload photos (send them from your computer to the photo site). Once an image is posted you will see three choices below the photo

URL
TAG
IMG

Use the URL choice (I do) posted below your photo.

In iboats on top of the REPLY box where you type your New Topics or Replies there is a small Square Shaped Icon with a small mountain in it. (It appears yellow tinted on my screen)

Click on that icon.

You will get a small pop-up that opens and this is where the URL from your photo gets placed.

You are done!

A tip:
Photos should not be larger than 640x480 for size and if you need to they should be re-sized to that (or smaller) before you send them to your image host. As you browse iboats you can tell people who have photos that need to be re-sized. Re-sizing programs available free on the net too (I use Picasa).

If you resize small enough you can have your favorite photo made into your avatar. Photobucket hosts my avatar photo too.

Now get those pictures posted! 8)

Good advice, Bob. Photobucket.com also offers resizing options....Just click on "Edit Photo" above the picture in the album...

Thanks, Bob.

Let's pin this to keep it at the top for a while, at least.

I usually point people toward:
tinypic.com
The reason being twofold: it requires no registration and it automatically resizes pictures to less than 250k. Often we're dealing with people who are less than proficient with computers, and they tend to get turned off by registration and resizing concepts.

But what would be really great is if image attachments were hosted by the forum itself. Like any modern forum.

I gotta admit the resizing has always gotten me bassackwards. I'm resizing all of mine right now. That ought to help some of us with dial-up.

Thanks Bob - I took the plunge (successfully) and posted with photos for the first time - and added an avatar image.

Thanks again - very helpful.

Thanks Bob
Ive been meaning to ask about resizing for about two years now.
(See my fuzzy avatar) after I resized it using something else.

Maybe this post could be linked in the FAQs

Re: Photo Image Posting Simplified (I Hope)

Hello All:

I am having fun roaming around your site but have a problem. I posted pictures today on the Johnson/Evinrude repair thread following the "Photobucket" instructions, but still ended up with monstrous photos taking up half a screen. I went back to Photobucket and tried all sizes (the current one is thumbnail at 120 X160) and still the picture does not shrink on the post. Have I missed a final step?
