See, here's the irony....

Photobucket, a photo sharing business, doesn't really want to share photos anymore. Photobucket is now really interested in shoe spray and glow in the dark toilet seats.

Yup, PB execs decided to set fire to their entire business and they used our photos as kindling. Now they "thank us for our continued support" and pass along "great deals" on crap nobody wants to buy at the dollar store let alone a specialty online photo store that screwed us.

Again, what a waste. On every front, at every angle.

And it seems that once you download your file to your computer it cant be downloaded from pb again. Downloaded mine and now sending them to the docs and renaming them, going to take a while

I am very surprised you guys have pictures on PB and don't already have local copies or have them archived elsewhere.

I do, that's not the problem. Click on any of the links in my signature and you'll see that my work for the last 8 years, shared with the guys here on iboats, is gone. That's the crux of the issue.

If these build threads were a few pages long it wouldn't be a big deal, I could just go in and edit, all fixed. That isn't the case. Those threads are years in the making, thousands of posts, thousands of photos, cross linked with each other and other guys threads within the site. To repair those threads I'd have to quit my job, ignore my family, hide in my basement, start smoking cigarettes and order in PaPa John's for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Under those conditions it might take me till 2018 to get it done.

Nope, not going to happen. So, each of those threads are dead now. Just a waste of space on the interweb and clutter here on iboats.

Yup, it took me the better part of a rainy weekend to fix about 700 picture links when I had to do it a couple of years ago. I only fixed the links in the threads that I had started, figuring that was the bulk of my picture posts. Plan for about 1 minute per link fix, for those who are considering it.

I agree but I am reading about all these issues for people downloading their pictures down from PB. I would think all the pictures on PB are copies people have locally.

You would think so wouldn't you. But a lot of people are uploading to these sorts of sites directly from things like their phone, then when the phone fills up, there just delete them, in the knowledge that they are safe on PB and retrievable any time they need them, or to send to someone with just the link.

That's why my phone gets backed up as well. I delete pictures off my phone all the time.

Would our time and effort to restore the pics to our threads be better spent using the new photo sharing options to come? Just wondering about the temporary lifting of the edit restriction time frame and the new options coming our way in the next few months.

I've got a bit of work ahead of me to replace the pics in 3 threads and want to do what will be best in the long term.

Hey Watermann, we will have some new photo sharing options on this site within the next few months but a seamless integration with the forums might happen a little bit longer than that...For the most immediate, permanent fix you can upload directly to the forums as others have mentioned above but it is kind of cumbersome especially if you have a lot of photos you would like to replace.

I have been flowing along this nightmare and I would like to fix some of my threads photos, my issue is not the photos since I keep them all locally and only uploaded to PB the ones I wanted to post on this forum as well as some other forums I belong to. My problem is I can not seem to figure out how to get the image URL to post the image as above^^^ . I have tried both Flickr and MSonedrive can anybody assist in the correct way to cut and past the image URL. I like other have said reducing the Photo size on my phone to take the photos is a pain since most photos are not posted anywhere and resizing them just to post here is equally frustrating and then I end up with duplicate photos all over the place. Once I figure out the best way I would like to fix my Sea Ray thread. The URL below is from MSonedrive.

<img src="https://cmadyg-bn1305.files.1drv.com/y4mE8bldnogPjkOvdwn0tnETJD5ocO-8-tnRhn1mBf4dLNS7QrpZkuQJnVrFLBG3Matf8nIL8XXUcj6XE4KvfO13baYLvMZgMLnRqKiNTcHoA04LPyvAheD1pNmJ4Yv4uB1mtgJEM-4E9oIfCzFBkXGre-y5yhYzXeEJsr3i1mgouIEhZllRZRgNzhe8bUS4aoICRhXChIG0FxIS1ufsjOkJQ?width=660&height=440&cropmode=none" width="660" height="440" />

As always any advice is greatly appreciated

I use the paper clip icon to 'upload attachments' and then click the 'Upload from URL' button, and paste in the URL. The image file then becomes local to iBoats.

Hmm,

This is "news" to me.
Here's a PB picture from my (free) PB
Liberator11_zpsumanxfnf.jpg

Looks like it's working.
Is it because I am far below the max storage for a free account?

I've got a relatively small cache of photos that are linked over from Photobucket. I did get the email from them a week or so ago, but so far all of my images are still showing up in all topics (I've been checking a few bench marks). It's possible it has to do with the amount of links, I haven't found it in the terms of service yet. - - I'm watching my topics to see how long before Photobucket locks them down. But for the moment, they all still work.

At present, we have a limited amount of server storage for the forums, but as Tim pointed out earlier that is scheduled to increase significantly (essentially eliminating the issue of space). BUT, that hasn't happened yet. There is no reason not to upload directly to the forums right now, with the exception that you have to resize your photos before you do. That functionality works, and is only expected to improve in the future.

I've been looking at some other hosting options, and intend to revise the upload tutorial if I can find something. But for the moment, we're not sure what - or if - to suggest as a replacement. Imgur (http://imgur.com) is a candidate, as is DropBox and Google drive, but I've not done that much digging just yet and can't offer them as a good replacement long term.

For the time being, I suggest just doing a direct upload to the forums.

I'm late to this party, but I stopped using PB a long time ago, just didn't like it. Have been uploading my pics every time.
