I suppose marine tex is exothermic, so when you spread it thin, it takes longer to cure because the heat can't build up. Direct heat on those spots would speed up the curing process methinks.

Give that man a cupie doll !!! yep thats is mike , put the lamp by it and its hard as a rock in about 4 hours !! there was still soft spots on the transom when i was grinding , it was loading up the sand paper !!

OHh yea on the heater , I was thinking i was going to go threw a lot of kerosene , I ran it for about 6 and a half hours the last two days and went threw about 4 gals So i dont think that was to bad , you could have seen the heat bloom from space , if you had one of them cameras, my carbon foot print is more like a blanket the last few days !! well, i finished reading the entire thread John. Again, very informative! Thanks for putting all the detail into it.

BTW, you could have informed me I was coming home to 10 degree weather! We landed in Flint a couple hours ago. Time to get started tearing my boat apart. It seems so far removed from where you are at, lol. I hope you and F-14 can guide me well!

Re: pic of work so far

Are you kidding me? Spring isn't coming, it's a perpetual winter! I spent a few hours on Friday going down to Savage ( 35 miles south of my shop, 80 miles south of my house ), to pick up a sectional sofa from craigslist, only to be told someone else was getting it before I had gotten there. That pissed me off, but it was worse because of the snow, it was a real pain to drive my truck, sans topper...so less weight for traction. I ended up making a parallel trip to Eagan and got a coffee table with one of the tops that lifts up for eating at ( been looking for one cheap for years ), so it wasn't all bad...but the weather sucks! We got 4-5 inches. So much for those 40 degree days!

Man, I'm itching to get itching! I really want the warm weather, I want to start my own thread with progress on my boat! It's dumb too, I've got a torpedo heater...it just doesn't heat up the whole back yard!

OHH MAN Mike that stinks , sucks to drive that far in the snow and not get it !!

We bought both of them here two years ago at art van , love ours in fact that the table i use to put my wireless mouse on !! it comes right over the couch !! just use a couple pillows under my arm got the key board in my lap !! I love the table !! the sectional not so much paid like 2 grand for it and there is 2 spots that i dont like sitting on cause the the foam is shot !! I will never buy this brand again !!

You know Mike If we both put them out side[torpedo heater] we might just get spring here a little sooner !! hahah but at 2.89 a gal , I cant do that for long !!!

Yea I cant wait either , so i can sit back and watch some one else do some work !! hahah but by then i will have the crownline home and want to work on her !!!!! John

Re: pic of work so far

you gotta look at the mil thickness when you buy tarps. The cheapo brands aren't much thicker than sheet plastic, nor any more resistant to shredding. I bought little better than average 25ft'r for my big boat and the frame I use to pull the cap off. Its worn where the tarp meets the uprights edges. I tried to patch the area, but that never works for long, and this year I put some shop rags on there to reduce the point stress, but the fact that it's pulled over those areas puts pressure and they start to push throw regardless when the wind hits and starts pushing and pulling on the tarp.

I may just throw a hundred bucks at a good fabric tarp, though I've seen some of the heavy duty billboard tarps on craigslist on occasion....I think those would hold up well, if you don't mind half advertising for some company.
