Man ohh man steve arms are dragen tonight !! Ok I will try to give you some heads up I am really hoping in two weels !! but we will see !!

Ok today got 7 hours on her , and did i really say had 20%
left ????????? lol well now i have about 20% the top and the side are done this round, and got part of the dottom not much but got started on that part !!

ANd i take that back there are a few tight corners i got to hit on the top yet !!

OOOH and think i lost one of the compressers this after noon !! think tha motor went !! I hope it just the belt , but it sure didnt sound like it !! so i was working with just the one compresser !!!!! and I was also hitting the top and the sides with 320 on the elect, sander with the one inch foam pad on it !! man that 320 on there still eats that gelcoat !!

A buddie came over and gave me a hand with that and did a bunch of hand sanding !! THanks Mike !!!

So i still got to hit the bottom good thing there is only about 10 spots not counting the keel !! couple hours hitting that and that should be good !! I hope !!!! Lol

So i didnt get to the tex , I got to hit it after work here in the next couple days , If i want to get her in the water asap !! and there still has to be 40 spots that i want to tex !!

Ok Guys my arms are falling off here , Night all John

Hello All
I'm new here.... love your site already.
Awesome thread John... was up till 2am reading it, I only got 3 hrs sleep before I had to go to work for a few hours.
You've inspired me to finish my Grew 147. circa 1973
Not quite as bad as yours was - just the normal fitting spiders and some hull gouges.
I've just finished restoring the paint and decals on my 1970 9.5 johnson outboard on a little Crestliner I just bought... will post up some pics when i get a chance. (indoor job) too cold in Hamilton, Ontario this time of year.
Anyway good work, can't wait to see your paint.
BTW watch the humidity, due to your salamander, when you paint they can produce a lot of moisture - at least the propane ones I've used do.

Hope you don't mind me asking some questions in the future

Cheers and good luck

John I'm sooo glad i amused your children!
On my project boat, I took some pics yesterday....after a long nap.
I'm still not fully recovered from the late night
I will resize the photos and start a thread soon.
On the humidity thing, I did a job once and the vapour froze to the exterior hollow metal door frame I was supposed to paint.
It gets freaking cold here, as you well know.
Cheers and good work

Re: pic of work so far

Hi all

Well I took a look at the compressor , [ it was my dads it was from the 70's] its just a 1/2 hp and hits 90 psi, Well while i was looking at it and plugged it in and it felt like it was turning so pulled the guard and the pulley just come right off , it was the set screw that hold the key !! so just tightened it back in place and the moved the motor to tighten up the belt , and she is running great now !!! so that is really cool , didn't want to go get a new 1/2 hp for it !! so back to running two compresses !! yeaaa !!

I wanted to get to do some texing done but , the boy took the car to the the tex center to do a tire balancing on the tires well it wasn't driving right so went and checked the lug nuts and sure enough 3 weren't tight and the he bent the valve stem behind the caps !!!! @#$#$@#@#$#$# /
So that is all squared away now !!

Well I had the heat going on in the garage while i was working on the compressor and the car , I am leaving one of the light on all night to keep it kind of warm in there so i can hit it frist thing in the morning !!

I also talked to Steve this morning and he said he might stop by one of the next two days !! and talked to my brother in law and he said he would come check out the body work on Friday !! He is a body and paint guy !! so it getting close !!!!!!!!!!!! John

Re: pic of work so far

Hey, like john said, i stopped by today and we had some really good discussions about our projects. Guys, John has done a REALLY nice job on that boat. It's going to look awesome with the new paint job and it is solid as a rock. I'm inspired to get going on mine for sure. Thanks for all the great tips, John. Looking forward to helping each other out and putting some fish on the decks this summer!

By the way, fellow I-Boaters, John's lovely daughter is raising money for the school band and has lots of high quality chocolates for sale if you are looking for a nice gift to smooth over anything with the misses (read washing grinding clothes in family washing machine oops) be sure and drop him a pm! haha, cheap plug for you, john!
