Re: Piracy on the High Seas and the British Fleet

That was exactly my first reaction and probably that of many british naval officers.
Besides this is the language that most of these pirates understand perfectly well......

I forgot to mention,it saves a lot of time and money that would otherwise be wasted on legal procedures and prison time.

As for Haut's "M", maybe he means religious Mutations although that seems like an oxymoron within itself

Any Brits on here that would care to comment on this?

There has to be a different side to this story, other than the Brits are suddenly wimps. I have a hard time believing that.

Hint:
It begins with an "M"......;)

Murderers?
Mulattos?

These pirates fit both of those categories. The former is just cause for executing them. The second? I don't think so.

Maybe it's because they're Men!

Men are disproportionately represented in the ranks of piracy. Perhaps it's too risky to have all these men around who might end up being pirates. I say KILL US ALL!

I actually sent the article to a British friend of mine who is also actively interested in their Navy and maritime activities. He's looking into it and will give me his findings soon.

Re: Piracy on the High Seas and the British Fleet

Pirates like terrorist, operate outside the conventions of government and as they are not protected by any treaty should be dealt with as anyone that has stated murder is their modus operandi. Immediate dispatch by any government that catches them on the seas as well as death dealt by those who would defend their own lives.

Any government that would not protect it's citizens from murder, theft and other violent crime in the ordinary commerce of shipping has no right to the use of the high seas and should warn it's citizens of it's lack of care and protection.

The Brits should declare that it is no longer a maritime nation and depend on other countries that is up to the responsibility to supply all of their needs....for a price.

My disclamer is that I have not seen any official acknowledgement of the policy by the British government. May this all be much ado about nothing. I would hate to think that the British flag's sun has finally set on it's own soil.

I would have to agree with PW2, I have a hard time thinking the Brits have turned wimpy. On the other hand, even though I may not agree with the logic there are lots of things governments/countries/people do anymore I either don't understand or agree with...

Whatever their excuse for being a pirate, I say shoot 'em all and tell God they died of natural causes - cause naturally I should have shot 'em... :D

It's not the RN that has turned wimpy, but the Foreign Office, if it is in fact as printed in the Times.

I know that our British friends have been shouldering the load in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Piracy has been quite a problem off of the Thai coast, the straits near Singapore and the West Coast of Africa too.

They play for keeps, and often the Chinese will accept the stolen cargoes.

Re: Piracy on the High Seas and the British Fleet

I personally find the individual Brit is certainly not whimpy.
Our country has a pretty close association with them.
I have a brother who is a Brit.
The problem seems to be their socialist (Labour) government. I will go further....they have had so much socialism since the late 30's, they have degenerated from one of the world's most powerful nations to one of the most useless.
Ever seen the program "Heaven on Earth...The Rise and Fall of Socialism". If you get the chance, watch it.
We have just got a socialist Government (Labour) and what distinguishes them from the previous conservative Govt (Liberals) is that they have to appease the useless masses at the bottom of the scale, and that is one big pesimistic downhill slide.
The English Govt will never be able to do anything constructive or forceful. You only have to look at their pathetic responce over the past 20yrs to Zimbawbe. So to think they can take a forceful approach to a handful of pirates...they are just incapable of doing it.
Here is another little gem......the number of English moving to Australia and New Zealand is very high.
A neighbour 2 doors down arrived 2yrs back (kids work for us on Saturdays). Dad said they just had to get out...its becoming pathetic over there.

But, and this is a big BUT, you blokes look as if your in for the same type of Government shortly.

Cheers

I'd move to New Zealand in a second if it wasn't so hard for an American to do.

Shhhhhhhhh! Were not supposed to talk about that. Somebody might get their feeling hurt!

But your prediction is truer than you might think. It will not much matter who wins the election, we will be headed for that "same type of Government" . One maybe slower than the other, but in that direction none the less.

Just a question Phil, what kind of healthcare system does Australia have? Are hospitals privately owned; does the government have a-set fee schedule? Here In the States we spend 13.7 percent of our GDP on healthcare, that is the reason I ask. Just wondering if you Aussies have universal healthcare, or what kind you have, seeing as your so free market oriented.

To get back on topic,,,,again :D Sounds like a job for some bait boats/ships. Rig em with boobie traps sorta like the roach motel. When it gets full, pull the plug and let it sink. Feed the fish and start a coral reef at the same time. :D

Re: Piracy on the High Seas and the British Fleet

Now that is an interesting idea...

Here's an idea in the same vein:

Take an old cruise ship that's ready to be scrapped, dress it up to look like a going concern, put some dummy passengers on the upper decks. Then have a highly-trained, heavily armed commando unit waiting below for when the scumbags board. Blow them away, no prisoners. Throw the bodies into the drink and let the fishies eat them.

I ask nicely 2 or 3 times to tread lightly and stay on topic, but some just don't know what that means.
