Prop info.

I'm guessing it is stainless.

There is a small notch on one prop, and pitting on the blades and hub. What is causing the pitting, corrosion? Is this fixable by a prop shop?

Re: Pitting, rebuild?

Pitting can be caused by electrolysis, intensified in salt water,or some sort of electric fault within the boat setup or even in a marina from another boat or the general setup. If anodes are present be sure thay are installed correctly and in good shape.Usually that which might corrode is bonded togeter to minimize electrolysis. The anodes persent to be sacrificed instead.

If the prop shop is a good one, they will refuse to repair the pitting because the weld repair will pop out again. Galvanic pitting is not repairable.

ewww...That statement might cost me ~300 bucks! Anyone else agree or disagree?

Should I buy a new prop or is using this one as is okay?

thanks

The notch in the edge certainly needs to be repaired. The pitting is of minor effect, however for best efficency you should figure a new prop into the budget and relegate that unit to emergency back up duty. Oh yeah, buy a new prop nut and washers as well and tie wrap the old ones to your backup prop. Don't ask me how I got that idea!
