Horsefly,
Homelite/Textron Division(1962-66) sold the rights to the motor to Fisher-Pierce of Rockland,Massachussetts(maker of Boston-Whaler boats)in 1966.Pierce called their product the "Bearcat 55".Prior to this it was the Fageol Products Co. of Kent,Ohio. The latest(auto based) engines are from the English,Coventry Climax Auto up to 85hp.Homelite's model was a 4 cylinder,4 cycle outboard. These motors are inter-changable with the English Crosley car engine.Neat! :p
:D Maybe interchangable was the wrong word. :D Crosley enthusiasists are seeking the Bearcat and Homelite 55's for auto conversion because of the higher horsepower.Have fun....

The Crosley was made in Cincinnati, Ohio by the same company that made Crosley refrigerators.

The 750cc Crosley was the basis for the Fageol, Homelite and Fisher Pierce Bearcat 55 engines. They are not interchangable; the outboard was considerably modified from the 26HP Crosley. The Bearcat 85 was a Coventry Climax engine.
