Re: Please be careful when.......

Just how much money are we talking here on a credit card for goodness sakes? You won't pay anything if your motor doesn't arrive. I bought a motor with up front cash from Virgina. Now that is stress. Motor came by and by, in stock, out of stock, boat showes, on and on. But it came and i'm very happy with it. Good luck

Wow,I feel better now.Thanks.I'm actually a pretty mellow guy.It gets my *** out when I'm lied to or played for a fool. No,I'm not going to feel foolish when and if this motor arrives.Do you think I would be whining about this if I was told delivery is 3-6 weeks? No,I wouldn't.I asked this kid twice about delivery when I ordered.7-10 DAYS.With a tracking number!!! Anyone that doesn't believe it can call and ask about delivery times.I'd like to know what you get told.I emailed about the warranty start time but haven't got an answer yet.I'll apologize to anyone here if they felt offended by my rantings, but I'm sure alot of people would feel the same way if they were in my shoes,(or,boat)I really am dissapointed by this whole thing though. This new engine purchase took alot of thinking from me.I wasn't sure if I should buy or not. I'm gonna' be cutting and welding lots of iron to justify spending this much cash.Oh,well,I'm gonna' go,Thanks,Everyone,C.C.

I guess roscoe was right. My guy in Virgina told me "someone sold your motor without talking to me and that was the last one, we'll re-order" Can you dig it? I was in the game for $7,000 and change. Was interesting and again good luck.

Re: Please be careful when.......

Just to add a little to your rant. From a person who routenly has large and small items shiped from the US to British Columbia Canada for work. It can sometimes take days to a week for things to clear customs going in both directions,Rule of thumb never take the shippers estimate on shipping times, contact the carrier who will be shipping the product, and ask them how long it will take for it to get from point A to point B. IBoats should be able to provide you with a name of a carrier and a bill of lading,or weigh bill number which the carrier uses to track its freight.

I can fully understand your frustration.I just bought a new 90Hp Johnson for my boat from a local dealer, and totally got ****ed around, it took 1 whole week to complete the deal, and two weeks to get the prop and Gauges. Was not impressed to say the least, but not so bitter now that the engine is installed on the boat and working great. ( Boat does 45 Mph Now. Loving it!!!)

Good Luck, and have a little patience

Re: Please be careful when.......

To start I must stress I'm not in the freight business. Maybe the kid lied to you about delivery time, but then again it maybe he's just quoting the 'normal/best' delivery time to any states.

As someone mentioned before, the route the outboard gets from the depot to your house isn't just on the back of a truck!. It may involve plane, train, trucks, vans,..... even some poor b**tard trolleying it up your drive. A truck could have had a flat tyre, thus missing the connecting truck. A forklift could have be broken down in a depot and took a day to fix. Customs is another delay.

I've never bought from iboats, but I don't think it'd do them any good lying to customers, yes they can get away with it for a little while, but eventually they will p*ss off enough people out there no one/very few will buy anything from them.

Just keep cool and enjoy the outboard when it arrives, all the troubles and delays will be forgotten once it's in the water.

Dhadley,

Oh, he probably got his outboard delivered. Nobody to rant at, so he's not here. Ranting's bad for your blood pressure, my doc tells me, so I quit doing it.

Oh.I'm still here.My motor is in Pennsylvainia.It's new delivery date is 6-27 or 28.that's 20 days from the order date.that's not 7-10 days.If I subtract the 2 weekends,that's 16 days..That still isn't 7-10 days as I was told by iboats.I must of forgotten rule #1-Everyone lies.

Stuff happens. Your outboard is coming. Nobody lied. Stuff happens. As you go one with your life, more stuff will happen...a lot of it beyond your control.

It's simply not worth putting a lot of stress on yourself about this stuff. You ordered an outboard. It didn't come as fast as predicted. It's coming, though, and you'll put it on your boat and this will all be forgotten.

Patience is a virtue.

Riverkid, I would guess you will never be happy with this motor after what you have been through. You used a credit card, why not cancel the order advise the credit card company and do not accept shipment, have it returned to sender. Then do the right thing as all Americans should do buy local and made in America products when and if possible.

Why? I thought a basic premise of our country was the free market economy where we all buy the best product (for our particular use) for the best price (including many tangibles and intangibles not included in the cash paid). Should probably move this to dockside chat or something, but you started it! :p

But you are very correct that this particular case is an example of how a couple of tangibles and intangibles turn a seemingly good mailorder deal into less of a deal all told. That's why I tend to buy locally whenever I can, not just because it's local. -because I've got enough experience under my belt to be able to forsee "issues" that might arise with certain mail order transactions.

As for the buy American, that never makes sense unless it's the best product/price package. Blind "buy American" only leads to undermining the competativeness of our economy on the US and world market. And what's an American product anyway? An American company manufacturing overseas? An foreign company manufacturing in the US?

How do you figure that out nowadays? And besides, back to one of my original questions, doesn't that go against the basic premise of a free enterprise system?

Re: Please be careful when.......

I won't buy another american motor anytime soon. I suckered myself into the patriotic hype and bought a pos money pit gmc yukon (new). Worst $$ decision I've made...I went back to old reliable nissan 4x4 and haven't looked back (220,000 miles later...not a whimper). It's not coincedence or bad luck--we had the same problems with my ol' man's tahoe--the little BS things that drive me crazy...a/c failure, 4x4 acuators(3x), alternator, fuel guage ($500), stripped rear diff, etc. This was all before 100,000 miles. These trucks never went off the gravel and never saw mud. I drive a frontier and he has a pathfinder...couldn't be happier.

Anyway, did you get the motor from iboats? I'm ordering next week and would like to hear how your deal turned out
