As noted above, a cascade of events. Bad anti-siphon, no gas, a ton of cranking and starter is toast.
You can buy an aftermarket starter and save money vs. BRP (under $100).
Using a jumper cable to apply 12v directly to the starter nut(avoid the threads) is a simple test (you may have already done this).
Curious, how does that 2150 handle the rough stuff and what MPH do you top out at with the 175?

I tried the jumper cable trick it just sparked. I hit the starter with a hammer the other day and it turned over and ran for a few, I turned it off and went to start it again and it sounds exactly like a car trying to start with a dying battery however both batteries check out fine. I have only had the boat out a couple times. I personally haven't gotten into the rough stuff, my friend who owned it before me said they got caught in 6-8ft on the way in once and it handled like a champ. Didn't even take on water. I think I topped out around 37mph (the speedo needle is broke so I was using gps)...

Whenever possible, buy from i-boats... however this price is tough to beat and these guys have been around awhile. Double-check your application.

I just sold a customer a 2150 I took on trade. Nice looking boat. Do you have a kicker (he's asking for one) as it's a tough install.

Re: Please help asap! First a collapsed fuel bulb & now just "click" when i turn the

I'm officially stumped....again. I checked the voltage going into the solenoid when I turned the key and it drops from 12.5 to under 6v with one battery and I just get a click, and the other battery is showing 7v and then drops to below 5v when I turn the KEY! So I assumed it was something between the batteries and the wiring, maybe the switch or some thing so I first tried bypassing the switch, and using the battery showing 12.5v at the solenoid, still same results. So I unhooked the battery completely and ran jumpers from it to the solenoid and it drops still! I say AHA the batteries must be bad, bot nope AutoZone's tester said they are both fine, load tested and all. My tester with the load switch says the same. When I hit the load switch each battery drops from about 13v to 12.5v. SO what could this be, I need help please!?

THANKS TO ALL!

Perhaps I've lost some of this conversation somehow.

If you haven't repaired, rebuilt, or replaced that electric starter yet, do so.

Fuel problem solved (anti-siphon valve) Still not starting. Guess it has to be the starter. Both batteries checked out fine at Autozone. All wiring is good, brand new solenoid...

Did you have it tested?

I agree about the starter. Sounds like it may be shorted or dead, especially since you connected a battery directly to it and it didn't turn.

One thing to remember about electricity, when current (Amps) goes up, voltage goes down (Ohm's Law). Since your starter may have shorted internally, that could explain the 6 Volts that your seeing.

If that is true, that would explain it because nothing else makes sense. JUst so weird that it cranked right up and ran for 15 minutes and then I turned it off. Went to start it 1 minute later and sounded like starting a car with a dead battery. How do you go from running fine to that in no time at all? I mean, yes it is a B.O.A.T. but really? I'd do the starter myself if it didn't involve "special tools" and what not. SO weird, my first engine that you can't see the crank (gear or whatever it is called) without removing a ton of stuff to get down to it. Not cooooooool!

Only way they can test the starter is with it OFF the engine which entails what seems to be a lot of work, replacing gaskets, and the use of special tools to reassemble.... If it were a 4 bolt take off job I would have replaced the starter just because by now...

Is this a carb model? If so high/low speed timing is locked with a screw (thing with the teeth the roller moves) don't move screw. Take pictures, a hand full of screws & a lot of bolts, it will come off quick. No special tools,no gaskets.

Tis carbed. Are you certain? I need to get some pics and post and then get some feedback!

The starter is a 2 bolt job, it drops down.
My outboard tool set is a $10 socket set from walmart. Its full of "special tools" , like screwdrivers and metric sockets.:)
It will take longer to tag the wires than dropping the starter.

Take a lot of pics for yourself during
Reassembly you can see what went
Where. Watch for third bolt on bottom.

Sorry for having 2 threads going everyone. I will reply to both so if anyone has the same issue they can follow what I did and whatnot.
FORUM MODERATOR: YOU ARE WELCOME TO REMOVE EITHER THREAD AS YOU WISH

Well here is the whole story, one of an unfortunate chain of events that led to the demise of my motor.
1. Anti-Siphon valve got stuck at sea causing the fuel bulb to remain collapsed, not allowing fuel to the engine. Freaking out I tried multiple attempts to start the boat thus weaking the starter I'm sure.
2. After fixing the fuel problem, alas the boat cranks but wont turn over. Again I try several times, my last try is when all I get is a "click" of the solenoid. Turns out the reason she wouldn't start this time is because of a problem with the kill switch plug where it plugs into the engine (HOWEVER I wasn't aware of that at this point).
3. After replacing the solenoid there was still no difference, so I tested the voltage going into the solenoid which dropped from over 12v to about 6v when I turned the key. SO I was told and assumed there is a problem between the batteries and the solenoid. I had both batteries tested so I knew it wasn't that, so I ran jumper cables from the battery straight to the solenoid with the same drop in voltage. Stumped, tired, and aggravated Doug (daselbee) came to my rescue. He drove down and immediately diagnosed the starter being the problem so we pulled it off and well...... it smelled and looked like someone emptied an ashtray into it. It was shot out, so I ran and grabbed a new one, we installed it, it cranked beautifully....but no start. It would give us a single sputter when I would let off the key. Doug (daselbee) pulled out his timing light gun and realized we had no spark. Well, not exactly. We were getting a single spark with the initial turn of the key but it would not contiously spark when holding the key. Doug said it seems like a problem with the kill switch.
4. We unplug the big red kill switch plug under the cowel hood as well as where it plugs in at on top of the engine and it starter right up. After plugging both back in it stars again and again and runs perfect. I guess there was a gremlin in one of those plugs but all is well...so far.

I want to thank everyone for their help
I especilly want to thank Doug (daselbee). He came all the way down to help me, out of his way, and spent hours getting dirty and wouldn't take anything from me for my thanks. A special thanks goes out to him from my wife and I, I truely do owe you one. If you need help with something whatever it may be just let me know.

Cheers to all!
