Part out what you can, take the boat to the dump, sell the trailer. Might make a few bucks. Then go buy a boat that does not need more work than its worth. You'll be on the water faster and happier.

Dang! where were you when I was trying to sell my junk cuddy cabin!!! ;) I cant help you much with inboards. Post your question in the motor forum in the inboard section. In my opinion you are making a bad, bad decision (economically speaking) but if the boat end up performing like what you want and you like it, who is anyone here to tell you not to restore it? (although you did asked for opinions)
Good luck! Keep us posted. Pictures will be nice.

PS- Since you are going to restore the boat it is generally a good idea to document what you are doing. It gives you a better sense of what you are doing. You can start by taking photos of everything that you can. Later one you can start putting it together in the restoration forum. Is a labor of love, just like a child that grows up, you will love to go back and see how it all started.

You have to realize that a lot of people are not really asking for advice but for reassurance. They have their mind set up by the time they start typing. I wish him good luck.

Your screwed ..Do us a favor and search but something like this is what you in for http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=234392..Think about it for a couple weeks..Most of us here have the knowledge from making the same mistake you are about the make.. Someone picks up a Freeish boat with the intent of fixing it up and it either sits as a lawn ornament until your wife or someone makes you get rid of it or you proceed and spend 5-$6000 on restoring a boat that will be worth 2000 if you sell it(or go thousands over budget).. If you decide to proceed bookmark this post and come back to it in 4 months:D..

i too have decided to take on a difficult expensive boat project. i know it will be expensive, i know i wont get my money out of it, i know i could buy a working boat for much less, but......when i am done, i know that i will have a very dependable boat. i also believe this to be a HOBBY, not a money making venture. all the fun hobbies are expensive..check the price of rc hellicopters! there is no resale value in that stuff, but people do it anyway. good luck with the rebuild, but most important, have fun, and take pride in your work!
