The pic is not showing the rope. A rope at the engine would allow you to turn the engine with both plugs out to look for a spark with the plugs grounded.

Point gap should be checked and set to factory specs. Make sure to torque the flywheel also so you don't shear a key.

Andy South, I Had to go to bed, Too Long Too Much. LOL!

I have learned some new skills/procedures (above average or personal experience) are better learned:

1. Reading first. 2. Watch an experienced person perform the needed tasks. 3.Reading again if needed to get a good understanding. 4. Perform the skills/procedures while the skill person watch and comment if needed. You ?Might? be ready to challenge above average skills/procedures with cautions at this point. Remember the experience person can only transfer what he sees/feels needed vs all he knows.

Does This Make Since? To see someone that want to learn vs having little procedures done excites me. Who is your local friend that has done these procedures?? What pics or info can I send that will help on the project?

Jow PS. Please be nice with comments related to my suggestions.

Top link below = You Tube on adjusting magneto points (only if they need adjusting but clean or replace if burned metal vs just grime). Re-torque fly wheel to specs vs what you see on this clip. There are other clips and info online but I d/n see one specific to outboards but the principle is the same on most ?old? mags. I did see one in text related to outboards at the bottom link. Good Luck! jow

Put the flywheel nut back on just to turn vs torquing. Do you have the torque spec and torque wrench for replacing the F/W? My Clymer manual is showing 80 ft lbs, please confirm that or what does your info show?

You?ll owe me a ride when we get this ?MONSTER? going ?Today or Close?. LOL. What is it on? Get some pics attached on this Monster. Remember to take the pics small (e-mail size or just above). All my pics are below 100kb in windows? property specs. The attachment mode will take more now, that is what I found safe initially trying to post attachments.

80 lbs is it. The boat is a 1978 thundercraft. I have completely gutted the inside. I have some new aqua blue carpet on the way and I picked up a couple seats from bass pro. God I love that place. When I get this "monster" going I will be glad to show it off to you. I'll get some pics when it stops raining, maby sunday. I cant wait to get this baby fired up.

Just wanted to add one thing I learned the hard way. You can put the flywheel on to turn by hand, but NEVER just put the nut on loosely and try to turn with the starter. You will shear the woodruff key (flywheel key) if it is not torqued to at least 80ftlbs, and NO grease on the shaft. Your setup is easy to work on, and runs great when properly tuned.

Andy Suoth, Please post some pic attachments of the motor (?while it?s raining?) LOL. My recent attachments are challenging me on sizes and I have attached them before w/o a problem. Such as, the Tale Tell attachments were basically the same size (above my usual below 100 kb Windows? properties) but one was accepted and one was not until I reduced it about 70 kb in my last post. What are the rules or why is the size matter affected only some time?

Re: :( Please Help me with my 1972 45 hp motor problem. Thanks!

Andy South, 5 ?close pictures? (the limit?) that would be good to show us a lot:

1. Both sets of points with the contacts open, point?s rubbing blocks, oil wics and point?s cam all showing (2 pics).
2. Plug?s spark and conditions (2 pics).
3. Linkage side of the motor with all linkage and carb showing.

These pics could show a lot related to Mag??s components conditions and needs, spark and plugs condition and linkage alignments.

I had dirty points problem vs ever burned (since 84) due to adding too much oil to the wics that was causing a vapor. I ?Finally? cleaned the Mag good, used less (2 drops) to no oil ran the Monster Hard WOT 5 mi 2-4 trips and Bingo! (it stayed clean which also indicated no crankcase blow-by). I would get a stumble Out-Of-The-Hole (LOL) and slow to get on plane. That was the purpose of my Mag pic record (page 1) showing in this thread. I wish I had put my better glasses on and captured the points open also. jow

Re: :( Please Help me with my 1972 45 hp motor problem. Thanks!

Do the YouTube. I feel pics will be better to see good details. It was a pain until I got it down and it still challenge me at times. Tips:

1. Pics too large was my original lesson. What are the window?s property sizes of your pics?
2. Are you working from the advanced option where the paper clip is you option to add an attachment?
3. Do you see the window to select/drag pics to the bottom window or sel add file to add new pic options?
4. Are you uploading one at a time up to 5 and select done when finished, which will show in a list?
5. After selecting done are you selecting preview to see the attachments before sending?

The opening that you see above the plugs is probably the thermostat where you see my Tell Tale attached. You need a Clymer manual covering your model if your info is not showing that thermostat. Goodness! What manual are you using and what else is missing? It takes time to get use to a manual and I need to flag my pages with labels for the aese of going back to specific info.

The Bottom Line! Are You Taking your Time In An Organized Manner Vs Jumping Around??? With no Disrespect. jow
