Looking for a portable head to keep in the boat in case of "emergency". Anyone steer me in the right direction? Looking at some of the Thetford devices and just wondering about reliability.

Hmmm I'm not seeing the potty? But thats a nice Cub Cadet yellow motor, and I notice the baffle tray in your bilge, is that something to keep salt water from sloshing around ? someone else here had that problem.

I have a bow rider and when the girls need to go they have to pee in a bucket, it's no big deal, just rinse it overboard. If there's a bunch of people around they just have to hold it or go for a swim LOL.

Re: portable head

Those are some reasons why not to swim in the water plus it makes me think twice about eating the fish I catch. I know there is hefty fines if one gets busted.

Last year lots of people who enjoyed the beach got sick. It seems as if the water had lots of waste in it. It didn't take no time for the authorities to head over to the boat docks and check on who was dumping into the lake. To me there is no excuse for boat owners to neglect the very water that they spend time on. Please dump where it is supposed to be dumped. It is now mandatory at our lake to buy a season pass for pump out for boats with holding tanks. Then when you do, the marina marks down each time you do. Those that don't pump out are going to be paying fines or prove that they don't use their on board facilities.

Just a word of advice......Porta Pots will fill up very fast with several beer drinkers on board. I do agree that a 5 gallon bucket works better for that purpose.

Re: portable head

We have young kids. The adults can use the lake for #1 and hold it for #2. Most of the kids can use the lake for #1, but looking for something to keep onboard for that pediatric #2 emergency. The reason I asked about portable is obviously so I can take it home to dump. Wouldn't even consider dumping it in the lake. Any other intelligent responses? ;)

hum, can't remember where i read it, i think during a near flood over on the missouri river last year or the year before. but the city of omaha dumps a certain percentage of raw waste from the whole city right into the river. i've got a number in mind, but unsubstantiated so won't say it.. but will say i remember a 2 digit number.
while i agree in principle about not rinsing overboard. i bet it happens more often than not. on the lake i go to boat at, a boat with a portapoti or head are few and in between.. i wonder where it all goes.... into the lake i'd guess... myself, i won't eat fish out of the lake either. they've been contaminated with chemicals from other sources i think... at least that's what usually gets printed in the paper about every year as a caution for eating fish out of the local lakes.

drknute3, sounds to me like the 5gal. bucket with a trashcan liner would be ticket to me. about the right size to sit on too.... the bucket could also be used as storage perhaps when not in emergency use...

Re: portable head

We bought a "Luggable Loo" 5 gallon bucket lid for camping and have used it several times on the boat. I like it since the "toilet looking" part can be easily stashed in the boat so you don't look like a floating outhouse.

While camping we take 10 or so kitchen garbage bags, open them up and line the can. When someone is done, throw the bag inside and it's ready for the next person. On the boat we just grab a bag, throw the lid on and let them have at, then tie up the bag and wrap it again in another bag so it doesn't spill

I don't what brand that I have(150 miles away), but my '92 240 Midships came with a chemical toilet and it still works.

Upper unit is filled with water, the lower unit gets a measured amount of chemical, and it wasn't unpleasant to empty. I do have a very good gag reflex and it didn't bother me at all. But then everything "sat" all season and not after that days use.

Just need to get TP rated for chemical units. Household stuff may not dissolve.

Speaking generally, I'm really amazed that all the environmentalists have no problems going overboard.
