Posible oil and water mix in mercruizer sterndrive

I bought a boat last fall with a broken engine. I got a rebuilt 4.3 and got it installed in the winter. Also, I performed an oil change on the sterndrive. I took it on the water this last weekend. After a while on the water, I noticed that the oil from the sterndrive was spilling over from the oil reservoir cap. I'm wondering if the oil and water are mixing. The oil looked light blue(ish). Perhaps similar to, but with a yellow tint like a milkshake when engine oil is mixed with water.

If it's mixing oil and water, what could be the issue?

be that the seals in the outdrive are leaking and oil and water mixes. I think also the vent on cap can cause pressure build up and overflowing as well.

Would crack your drain screw on outdrive and see if you have milk there

I finally had time again to take out the boat on the water. Now I know 100% certain that the oil and water are mixing. There is an overflow on the vent cap, and when I drained a bit of oil, it is milky blue.

If I wanted to do a complete rebuild, what repair kit would I have to buy? When I had it out of the water and running with the outdrive engaged, it appeared that the propeller was wobbling.

I replaced the water pump impeller about 6 years ago. I'm up for the job

Check to make sure the trim line hose fittings (esp. where they attach to the rams are tight. I had some that loosened and let water into the system.

Contact a MerCrusier Dealer and order a Seal Kit. Model and Serial Number of the Motor and Outdrive will certainly help in getting the Proper Kit

I’ve found that the drain screw gaskets will let water in. Replace them at every service with the paper gaskets. I had those yellow one before and they didn’t seal well.

I dont think Mercruiser makes a seal kit . Frist things first start with a pressure test if you drive is like mine the only seal that was age deteriorated was the shift shaft seal. I picked up a fishing line on the prop seal and went through the whole drive replacing all seals. Other than the fishing line only the shift shaft seal was hard and brittle.

Get a factory manual as it outlines any special tools you needed and the procedures. If none of the bearings are bad you should be able to reseal it with out the set up tools and rolling torque. Pulling the lower unit bearing carrier takes a little persuasion and tooling. If you are reasonable competent mechanically is not hard with the tools and manual.

Do you mean in the system for trimming the outdrive? I have oil mixing in the gearbox not the trimming system if that is what you mean
