hi , Thanks for the replies again , heres what i think would be the best option myself buy the 175hp long shalf that i have been offered , remove my good gearbox off my 225hp XL shalf with the blown powerhead ,the only thing that i think that i can have it machined to a long shalf and have new splines machined , well i do really thank anyone for their input to this as i live in Ireland , getting any advice from the Johnson dealer over here is impossible , anytime you speak to him alll he wants to do is sell you a new engine I personally get the impression that he does not know one end off an engine from the other and if you do need a part he wants you to tell him the part number you need , then wait 6 months for him to get it for you , most times it has just been easier in the past to phone a dealer in the states and have them post me the parts and in most cases they arrive airmail within a week, well if i have to buy a new shalf were is the best place to get the proper one and how much do the normally cost, many thanks steve
