pre alpha match

I have a Mercruiser pre alpha outdrive (SN# 2361794) eight spline verticle driveshaft mated to Mercruiser 120, and I have read dozens of posts here and elsewhere, trying to determine what newer (read parts available to repair) lower unit will mate with the upper. One post suggested that the Alpha 1, Gen1 might work. I've learned "might" isn't good enough.

Also would like to know what newer complete unit (upper and lower), if any, will mate with the old, current bellhousing.

My current lower unit is trash and the fish are biting

The pre-alpha only matches the Alpha One Lower Unit. The Bravo or Gen do not match!!!

Are you saying the Alpha 1 lower will fit my pre alpha 8 spline upper? Are you saying that I could use a good pre alpha 8 spline lower with the Alpha 1 upper?

It will tell you what drives are compatible with each other.

What exactly is wrong with the lower unit u have at the moment?

Just curious cause I have been looking for a Pre-Alpha Lower Unit Housing.

Thanks frostywalrus,

I lost reverse gear and mechanic said that previous owner had used a torch somewhere and deformed thread on a bolt preventing opening of unit to repair, i.e. trash.

Nope,... Your old upper,+ lower are pretty much Worthless...
But,...
You can swap on a Complete Mod.1 drive, or R drive, or MR drive, or Alpha 1 drive....
