The pre load pin on the top of my drive shaft has been erroded by rust by approx 20%.

My initial thought is that it would still be servicable considering the downward forces placed upon it. The spring is operative.

How can I remove it to replace it if I so desired? Is the holding mechanism screwed into the top of the drive shaft?

Or what????

Thanks,

John

If you look real close you will see it peened in place and it can be removed with a dremel tool. Be careful as this thing will shoot out with the force of a .22 Hi power shell!!!. You will need a press to hold it in place while you re peen it after repair.

Faztbullet,

Thanks for the heads-up on the danger of removing the pre-load pin. Having been a long time fan of .22 calibre firearms, I can appreciate the danger of an unwanted discharge event.

That being said, I'm going to go with the compromised rusted pin as serviceable. Risk vs reward theory !

Thanks,

John
