Re: President Announces Exit Strategy

Ohhhhhhhhhhh!! Now I get it. We (pretty much GWB) wanted the world to believe that there is now a shortage, that's because when we got there the UN sanctions against Iraqi oil sales were changed allowing more oil to flow hence the appearance of a shortage. Makes perfect sense.

Re: President Announces Exit Strategy

Actually, Iraq was pouring oil to China and France and if anything resulted in abundance of supply. Now control is out of their hands. Oh well no proof just supposition on my part. However, the facts are gasoline has gone up over 100% and there is not change in oil available.

As for refinery shortage, the no new refineries in 30 years plays exactly to my anti-big corp rage.

No new refineries but capacity at refineries has increased as needed. No new refineries cause oil companies will not permit competition by price fixing and governmental control. There is no shortage folks.

This oil sham is just that, smoke and mirrors. By the way the first oil shortage was not during a R administration.

At that time, I was a member of the OCAW union in Port Arthur, Texas and the companies were holding back supply to make a shortage appear. I know I worked in the lab and ran quality test on the same fuel numerous times to make sure it did not sour before sent out.

My point, the shortage of new refineries is another hoax. You do not build a new refinery to increase quantity, you add a unit within the existing refinery.

Now try to get a comparison of quantity produced today and 30 years ago. Increase is huge and all without one single new refinery, magic I guess.

The Oil Industry laughs at the public's misconceptions all the way to the bank.

Do I detect a conspiracy theory?

Conspiracy theory, no way, remember Billie Sol Estes, a great and close friend of one Lydon B. Johnson. No conspiracy. It never happens.

One bullet, through JFK, through Conally shoulder, through his arm and into his thigh.

Marilyn just overdosed cause her life was so miserable.

Oswald and Ruby had met just co-incidence.

No stars in the moon photos with the astronauts and now the original film is gone.

No sir ever thing is just as it appears.

better they get on with killing each other and leave us alone.

I hope people don't honestly believe that will happen. That they would leave us alone if we pulled out? Because if people do, they are in for a very rude awaking in the future.

First of all, the question of oil, and the notion that high oil and gas prices proves that this was not about oil.

While I think oil had a part in this, it was not the sole, or even primary reason. Your comment though presupposes a level of competence, and in accurately predicting consequences of actions. Not exactly this administrations strong suit

We are paying a wordwide political instability premium at the pump.

As far as comments such as fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here and other such drivel--

Have people read Jill Carroll's account of her captivity, and the nature of the enemy we are fighting? It is not a particularly political document, but it gives a fascinating portrait of the enemy from the Iraqi point of view. They have no interest in following Americans over here.
It's available on the web in various locations

AlQaida of course is a different story, but they are a small faction of who we are fighting in Irak. They clearly have a worldwide presense now, and will occupy us for many years to come, regardless of the outcome in Iraq.

Anybody see a parallel there?

On the contrary, I see no parallel what so ever. The situation India facing is the result of the forever going conflict in Kashmir. A disputed piece of land claimed by Pakistan and India in which they fought three wars.

Most of the chaos you may or may not read about happened in Kashmir. A section of land controlled by India and not inside India's border. Furthermore, for the most part, it is not Muslims vs Hindus for control of India unlike the situation between Sunnis and Shiites in Iraq. No similarity. Rather, the fighting is between Muslims Citizens of Kashmir and the government of India. Occasionally an incident spilled over but the root of the problem is anything but iraq. To simply use this conflict to justify why we should stay in Iraq bears no fruit.

Under UN resolution, they (Kashmirians) were entitled to vote on their faith wether to join Pakistan or India in 1950 to which India accepted. Of course the process never materialized. 1950 came and went. The chaos remains.

Clearly this is not iraq. Apple and orange. They're both fruits is all you gonna get.

I report. You decide. Pointer you get the last word. 8)

Now just a darn minute . . . I earned them stars with a combination of ridiculous, meaningless posts like this one and some reasonably well thought out ones. Problem is that I (and I'm sure you) can't tell the difference . . .

OK, there was an occasional LOL @ alden . . . and I've even shamelessly used "Ayuh" onced or twiced.

Edit: On second thought I think I got the Vice from KaGee. He's a big boy now!!

Re: President Announces Exit Strategy

I am OK as long as we (normal humans) don't get mad enough to open the doors for the Dems to mess it up even worse . . . I support W completely for two reasons:
1) He gets it and
2) He is not the other guys (and gals) who don't . . .
Yeah QC, if the choice was possible I'd still have to vote for Bush over any democrat that will be running in '08.
With that said please allow me to be a little more critical.
Mine is a very short list of what I see as accomplishments of this two term administration.
1. I like the two confirmed Supreme Court judicials that he appointed.

I used to like the way he talked right after 9/11.
And when he warns N. Korea that there will "dire consequences" if they proceed with their nuclear program and missle testing. And when he says the same thing to Iran.
But now I think it's turned into mere lip service that damages our national security.

A lot of people here blame the democrats for almost all of the administrations failures. Sadly I think they are only savvy to what has been handed to them politically on most important issues.
It took a lot of incompetence to squander the amount of support both domestically and internationally this President had after 9/11.
War has the capability to make mediocre men great and great leaders indisputable. Incompetence during wartime leads to what we have now.
Additionally this administration has given conservatism a bad name or at least a misrepresented example of a conservative one.
The performance to this point will cost any truely conservative candidate that may come along in the future.
This administration has taken off the table any of the long standing traditional conservative platforms the Republicans might get elected on.

The President's exit strategy leaves behind a mess no matter when or where.

QC, I have recognized a potential epidemic and am headed to see my doctor today. I seems to result in the mind just slowly being used on ideas and in arenas of thought comptepalation and often disagree. Hours upon hours staring endlessly into a lighted screen. Yes iboats is an epidemic and I am going to try to get a shot to prevent it or at least slow its progress.

You are fun to disagree with and your opines are respected, thanks for sharing.
