He's on the coast. 40 outboards for every I/O

That may be the case in your area, but I wouldn't make that generalization. It's not the case in my area of the coast, but i wouldn't assume that what prevalent in my area is general rule elsewhere.

To the OP, don't worry about what the next is going to do with HIS boat after you sell it. They could take better care than you do and it could just as easily sink in a storm or find it's way up on the rocks somewhere. Boating is not a wise financial investment. Decide whether you can afford to get the boat you want. If you worry about how much you have into the boat, you'll never sell it.

Yep, didn't realize he was coastal. Many years ago here in MN the prevalent bowrider engine was an outboard and they slowly moved to I/O's as the cheaper propulsion.

I think both jkust and dingbat are correct because I doubt the boats dingbat's referring to are true "bowriders" (non-self bailing "sofa boats" to quote Home Cookin').

Let's all pretend the OP has a chance of winning this battle. :p

Sell the boat. Get a bigger boat. Finances don't matter. The wife has spoken.

A - Determine the budget of the new boat, B - Determine the realistic sale proceeds. A minus B = Cost of new boat and keeping yours.

Make sure you're happy with the new one. Sell old one and start upgrading the new one.

I think your wife just wants to go faster.Maybe an engine upgrade may work.
Remember a new boat will be a lot cheaper than a new wife.

Re: Problems Selling the Old Boat

Thanks to everyone for all the comments and advice. I will clear up a few points.

My boating time has not suffered, Back in 09 and 10 it did but now everything has been fixed up and is working.

The boat is large enough for my wife and I however we usually have friends with us and it is tight for 4 people and more than that the boat is just plain to small. Also the boat is marginal to take in the ocean. While not looking specifically for an ocean going vessel something that is larger for use in Boston Harbor would be nice.

I'd like to stick with an OB but as moving to a larger boat may not make that possible. A good selling point for my current boat is the OB. One of the last big Johnson 2 stroke carbonated engines made. Of course that is one of the reasons I don't want to get rid of her, the compression is good and the motors always starts and runs like crazy.

Finances are a definite issue. My wife does not work and while we are not in a bad situation a boat payment has to be kept reasonable. I would also buy used and not new. Ideally I would like to get a new boat first and then get it going and check it out before selling my current boat. My son-in-law and daughter want me to buy a new boat and sell them them the current boat so that may be an option also.
