New to the forum. Just recently fixed and re-connected trim/tilt pump. It is making a loud gurgiling sound but it does not rise or lower the engine. It is also leaking out oil on the front bottom hose line. Any suggestions on why it won't tilt. It is a 1988 Bayliner with an 1988 125 Force, the pump has four lines.

It's leaking oil???
Enough to not make the pump not work properly???
Maybe you should fix that before you troubleshoot the 'gurgling'...

Have tried to fix it but it keeps leaking, not sure what to try next. The threads in the hole are stripped had to re-strip them and add a new adapter to connect the hose. Any suggestions on how to fix the leak.

If you hear gurgling, you have air in the system. Get a manual and bleed the air out of the system using the recommended procedure but first fix the leak.

Re: problems with trim/tilt 88 125 Force

Got the leak fixed and now realize that I need a new cap for my tilt motor because the piece that holds the rod down in the oil is broken. So with pressure on the rod the engine now goes up and down and the air is all out. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement cap for it. It is 1987, 3 bolts on the top with the two connector wires coming out of the side, the pump is a four line system? If I cannot find just a cap I will have to replace the whole motor and pump.

So you need the entire top of the motor assembly?
Don't think you can buy that separately.

Is this what you need?

click - photo

Will try it. roscoe the picture included is exactly what we need but it says that the pump/motor assembly is no longer available. How did you include that link to the post? Does anyone know where I can get a used one from somewhere just in case the other idea does not work?

Dawg2 or anyone, I went to my local NAPA store but can't get a daisy BB. Does anyone know where I can get one? It sounds cheaper than buying the replacement part for 250.00 dollars. It is great to have this support. Any help is appreciated.

Its just a BB from a BBgun...looks like a small ball bearing. I will add some good pump pix in my next post..

If nothing else, these pix might show people to keep their paws out of these things if they don't know what they are doing....

I decided that I will order the replacement part 6216, one thing it has three wires and mine has two wires. Will this make a difference? What is the third wire for?

Re: problems with trim/tilt 88 125 Force

Bought the new tilt/trim motor from Arco, exact match to the old one. Hooked it up, when I push the switch to go up or down it makes a clicking sound in the relays that are located in the engine. Now whats wrong? Its a brand new motor, 280.00 dollars and it still won't work. Help!!!
