Ive been lurking on this forum for some time now learning lots from all your projects and i finally got a project worth posting. I spent a few weeks look searching ebay and other sites trying to find the right boat, but luckily i found one locally which saved a lot of travel and extra expense as i live on an island.
The boat i found was a 13ft ft fibreglass speed boat with a Evinrude 40 on it the outboard was described as running but i think its pretty much scrap so will be sold on as spares. The hull is in a poor condition,but still repairable in my eyes. the deck is totally rotten and needing replaced i was also unsure of the condition of the transom. So using this a my bargaining tools i bid him down to ?250 from ?750.
i borrowed a land rover and towed her home to begin the restoration, it towed well despite the trailer having a bent axle.

also the hull made for 16 inch leg outboard but i am thinking to change this to 20 inch for standard outboards as larger short shaft outboards are hard to find over here. Do any of you see any problems in doing this? i know it will be alot of work but i think it is worth it.

Cute boat, and gorgeous countryside. Since you're rebuilding from the hull up, you ought to be able to pretty easily redesign the transom to be 4" taller. Looks like you studied the threads well, and are well on in your progress.

Very cool boat, why do you say the motor is "scrap"? If its not seized up it could most likely be good. Those old omc`s are great motors.

That's a GREAT looking hull. Based on the first picture of the stern, I see very little problem being able to raise the transom to the desired height. Looking forward to watching your progress.

I will try and get some pics up of the engine later so you guys can see what you think, but there is no Enivrude dealers up here which makes parts hard to find. The guy was having electrical problems with it and when i was removing the cable linkages all the plastics were just falling apart in my fingers which makes me think that it might just be a little too old and expensive to fix.

I am sure we can all help get the boat, motor and trailer ready for the water.

regarding the transom height and motor. I would look to see whats wrong with the existing motor, sort that out, and then your decision on the transom would be easier.

regarding the transom height and motor. I would look to see whats wrong with the existing motor, sort that out, and then your decision on the transom would be easier.

haha the trailer is actually in alright condition apart from the axle obviously. It seems to be quite heavy made i will weld in anew axle, clean it up and put some mud wings and it should be good to go for what i need anyway.
The outboard that came with it is a 20 inch shaft the previous owner has added blocks of wood to raise it to the correct height.(can be seen in the second pic) so the decision to raise the transom is pretty much made for me.

Really nice lines on that boat, it looks very foreign to me, I have never seen that particular boat here in the states, what is the brand name? Getting your outboard sorted out now will help you plan for your transom height and all the rest. It's a eye catching boat for sure, nice curves and lines. What type of water will she be running on? Any idea what the max hp is on that boat? I bet it will scoot along well with the right power behind it. Thanks for sharing the project.

yeah it is a strange looking boat. the closest i have found to it is a scorpio sorcerer but even that is slightly different. she will be in the sea mostly within the sheltered voe in front of our house or in the harbour in town. im not sure what hp it can take i reckon a 60hp 2 stroke would be the right size. i would hope to get 35 to 40 knots thats the goal anyway not sure if thats realistic or not?

well i got a bit more done on the boat in the last couple of days in between trying to buy a new car and fishing.
I found a nice crack in the hull that had some previous repairs done to it so ground off the old repairs and patched with fibreglass still got a bit more cleaning to do on it but hopefully do that tomorrow. also managed to remove the old well and final parts of the deck and foam thank god hate that stuff.

Right bit of an update on this, i put the old envinrude up for sale for ?150 and someone came a couple of days later and paid the full price the previous owner had used a old broken Britool breaker bar to hold the outboard up as he had removed all the locking mechanism from it for some reason, so i took that to my local britool dealer and got a exchange for a brand new one. All this means that i got the hull and trailer for about ?60.
i done a lot to hull it is now completely clean and a blank canvas to start building back up. i removed the old transom wood so that i could begin to raise the height of it up i made a quick mould out of mdf and glued so offcuts to the back to keep it square.

I screwed this to the transom and put 2 coats of gel on before a few layers of matting still needs a few more but its stiff enough for now. i was amazed how easily the mould released with just a few coats of wax was expecting a bit of a battle.




You can see in those pictures that i have also had to remove the old well as it will be the wrong shape, i used part of the old well to start making a mould for the new took a lot of measuring and cutting to get it looking right but think im happy now.

i made the mould out of the old deck with melamine board fixed to forget to get pics of me making it but will get some when it gets broken up.

i also got the first section of deck cut to size and made the ribs and stringers to go under it ive started glassing them in but the Scottish weather is not helping me.
