I recently bought a 1990 Hydra-Sports 185 fih and ski with a johnson 150gt on it. I have got the engine running very well after some work. It has a SS Raker 22p by 14 1/2 prop on it now. The engine was up one hole when I got it and the prop would vent very badly when turning even trimmed all the way down. So i lowered the engine back down and that has helped with the handling. But the boat will not get up on the pad untill the engine is at full trim. The prop looks like the origanal that came with the boat. It has few nicks in it. Could the prop be bent? Is it worth bringing in to be repaired or should I just replace it? Also the boat does plane well and the wot rpms are around 5300 5400. This is my first boat with this large of a motor and that has a pad. So thanks for the help.

Re: Prop help

What you say makes a lot of sense. Lowering the motor will increase drag but gives this prop a better bite. That usually means the tip cup is going away and / or the diameter is wearing down. Also a sign that the boat gets up OK but the top rpm's are down.

Has the Raker ever been re-worked? If so there will probably be some non-factory numbers stamped on it somewhere.

Re: Prop help

I dont see any other markings on the prop. I am in the middle of moving to a new house but when I get settled in I will try to find a prop. shop to check it. They should be able to check it fairly easy right? I am not sure why the engine was up that high. If the prop needs to be reworked maybe I can try to raise it back up.
