If you left it in forward when you took it off. It should go back in on (you can usually see the gear selector to see if it’s locating properly once it’s on too). When in forward with the drive all connected up…the prop will only lock one way. Same and opposite for reverse. I’d think you’d need to be at or beyond the 10 o clock position for it to engage forward anyway. Not sure you have much to worry about, unless I’m missing something.

mercruiser Alpha drives must be in fwd for removal and install, your pics look correct
if unsure on the procedure ask for a manual

my concern was why when i spin the prop its very hard to do by hand ? with my other previous boats when i foward i would spin the prop with one finger and it would rotate many times while clicking, but on this one i have to use my whole hand to turn it CW it turns and clicks but very hard? i was worried if something is wrong maybe impeller bad or bottom gears ? or the prop it self?? but in neutral prop spins very freely

Alpha`s use a "dog clutch" when the drive shaft turns the prop clockwise for Fwd the prop is locked to the shaft. When freewheeling in Fwd gear it will ratchet clockwise. perfectly normal. In reverse it will ratchet CCW

i understand that i had 3 boats so far all with Alphas but this one i think has something wrong with the shift cable, because with the drive off the prop moves normal ratchets and spins smoothly. But when it was on the boat it would rachet very hard . As if something's stuck or jammed. Id like to fix that issue while drive is off , dont want to take it off again.
