Re: Prop vs Jet
Yes a prop can be used with tunnel hull ...... it is better to use a prop than the jet drive in a river as the jet drive does more damage to the enviroment in a river than a prop ........
Totally false, a jet wouldn't last for a single minute acting as a dredge. Plant life isn't an issue because it clogs the intake and is avoided. The jetpump doesn't chop through anything. It sucks water in an area and doesn't pull anything from the bottom because its already is past that area. That's why I can run through 6 inches of water on plane and never pull a single pebble.
The only disturbance is through turbulence from the pump exaust. But since a prop is more efficient you have more turbulence from it.
All the salmon spawning grounds here have jets running over them , props aren't an issue because they can't even leave the boat ramp.
The BF50 Honda jet I used is rated at 35hp at the nozzle. The BF90 that I'm waiting for is rated at 65hp at the nozzle, as is my daughters F90 Yami.
The rule when running a jet out here is if the stick, rock, stump isn't above the waters surface it isn't an issue.
So if you plan to run in a shallow river you need a jetpump. If you aren't, run
a prop.
Tunnel hulls are a fine compromise.
