Pulls right

Re: Pulls right

My theory as to why turning the snout, or trim tab to the right as your facing it is, as the lower unit moves through the water, the snout acts like a little rudder, pushing the lower unit to the left, causing the boat to want to turn left some, Thus, it counteracts the clockwise turning prop torque (forcing it to the right), helping keep the boat straight, but at different speeds, or trim height conditions, this couteraction varies. I've found when you power down, or come off the throttle fast, the boat will momentarily pull to the left, due to this.

Re: Pulls right

Throw the foil in the bin, it is mutiplying an otherwise minor problem.

Once it is gone the trim tab (exhaust snout, rudder thingy) should take care of any minor pulling. The correct way to adjust the tab is to turn the trailing edge towards the pull.

A hooked hull is when an imperfection or damaged area of the hull is causing turbulence and therfore causing the boat to turn one way or the other. To check for a hook is usually a simple visual inspection, if it's hooked it will be obvious.

Yup, I did turn it to the right, left, middle every which way in between. The only thing that made any difference at all, was adjusting the trim.

I'd get going around 25mph, and it's very hard to hold the steering wheel, if I were to let go the boat would take a very sharp dangerous right turn, at this point if I trim the motor back up a little at time, until the pull goes mostly away. I wonder if I can add an after market trim gauge so it would be easier to find this point.

I was glad to see the trim made some difference.

Are you talking about trim tabs? or power trim? either way, I don't see how it would make any difference, no matter how it's set?

You must have noticed a difference if you moved the exhaust snout, extremely to the right.

Re: Pulls right

ive got the exact same problem...i have also put that snout from side to side and every spot in between with no significant change...steering wheel requires constant holding to the left or else that sucker with just spin out of control to the right.....I cant beleive there is no easy remedy...someone must have a cure besides the snout...

Re: Pulls right

Trimming up to neutralize torque will work.
NFB steering will help.
Going to a 4 blade prop also may reduce steering torque.
Steering torque is a fact of life unless you convert to hyd pwr steering

Re: Pulls right

Well, I had a chance to try the boat today, I moved the back of the snout all the way to the right, and it did made a difference on my boat! In fact I'll have to move the snout back maybe 1/2 way, as while on plane, the wheel was a little easier to turn left, then right. Don't get me wrong, it didn't turn into power steering all of a sudden, but the resistance was almost balanced, with a little less resistance to the left.

Re: Pulls right

Hello, Ive reading reading about this on the forum. I am having the exact same problem. I just bought the boat, its a 1990 pro craft bass boat, with a Mariner 115 motor.

It is pulling very hard to the right. I have to hold the wheel at all times and pull to the left to keep the boat straight, if for any reason my hands were removed from the steering wheel, the boat would take a very hard right turn and would be very dangerous. I am going to try and adjust the Trim Tab to the right,,,,,,,,, however what is the exhaust snout??
