Pumping water one minute, but not the next

I finally got spark on all three cylinders on my '85 Force 85. Fired it up and it was pumping water just fine (although the water coming out seemed a little "milky") Shut it off for a minute, and then fired it back up. Now its not pumping water. Looked down and realized my cheap-o walmart ear muffs fell off. Reconnected them and still not pumping water. Tried 3 or 4 different configurations and it still wont pump water. I could see water flowing from one side of the intake to the other. New impeller replaced just a few weeks ago due to water not pumping. Only 1 run on it. Whats the problem? Thermostat maybe?

Since nobody in town has a thermostat, I just removed it, and now it pumps water. Ready to hit the water and see what she's got!

should have a t-stat installed to regulate the powerhead temp, I wouldn't run too much without it.

The guy at the marina said he just runs them without one. He said these motors dont pump water very well with one anyways, and its hard to get them up to temp.

And $35 for a thermostat? WTF? That is just ridiculous.

The guy at the marina is an idiot !!! These motors run too cool without it, and some spots too hot. The thermostat is there for a reason. He just wants more business when your engine blows. By the way, thermostats are only about $16 if you buy them online.

Thanks! I'll be sure to install one then.
