Put new seals in the water pump, now no forward gear

9.5 johnson. What did I do and how do I undo it. I had forward before I tore it apart.

Do you have the connector for the shift shaft installed properly, the bolt through the notch in the shift shaft?

yup, im thinking there must be a gear that the LU and the shift lever on the motor must be in when you connect them. For example, the LU in reverse and the powerhead in reverse also.

If you have the connector installed properly the linkage will be in the proper gear.

bingo, I didnt have it far enough up. I realized the notch has to be in place for the screw to fit in.
