Hello Everyone,

Looks like I also need a pinion gear as well, not just resealing the gear case.
The part number is 304569.
What is the best place to get a replacement in Ontario, Canada?

Here are some pictures:

The forward and reverse gears are perfect, not a nick on them.
The dogclutch and the mating parts on the gears are also in good condition.

I can guess what happened. The shear pin was slightly bent, I needed a punch to take it out.
They must have hit something (the motor is new to me), and instead of the shear pin giving way the pinion gear shattered.

Interestingly, the shear pin I had in is made of mild steel and not brass!
Is that the original material? If so, that is way oversized! The shear pin diameter is 3/16".

Thanks, Peter

That motor is supposed to have a 3/16" diameter stainless steel DRIVE pin, not a shear pin. It is not supposed to shear, however it might if you mortally clobber something extremely hard. Otherwise, the rubber hub in the propeller absorbs the shock and protects the drive train. Having said that, I do not know why your pinion gear is damaged.

Ever since forum changed, nothing has worked for me. Disapointing.

Chris: PM sent.

F_R: Interesting info about the drive pin! It makes sense that way!
However, looks like the rubber coupling did not do its job?

As mentioned, the motor is "new" to me, I do not know its previous history. I bought it for C$120.00 two years ago. It was running on muffs.
The prop is not bashed up, no sign of any repair, and it looks original, its shape is consistent to its age and to the appearance of the rest of the motor.
The motor looks to be in remarkably good condition (aside from the pinion gear), having remover the lower end, and the water pump.
There was a little water in the oil, that is why I decided to reseal the gear case. Impeller was/is in good shape.
Compression is 70 PSI in both cylinders, having sat for two year since last run, and rope pulled just once.

I do not see the pictures that I attached in my original posting, does anyone see it?
It showed up in the preview, and when posting got the customary "data base error", and now I do not see the pictures.

Celebration that the new system is as good as the old was is a bit premature ;-)
