Re: Question about hours.

I was thinking the same thing about the sundancer. The pics gave it away...none of the marinas in the area have houses that close to the docs. Plus the price was too good to be true. Leaning towards the 240 personally but we'll see if its still available when our funds clear. But one thing is for sure...I will have a boat before the end of the year.

Re: Question about hours.

The wife and I went down go one of the local dealers to take a look at a 99 Four Winns Horizon 200. This thing had about 130 hours on its Volvo 5.7 All the stringers I could tap on sounded solid, and all the bulkheads were as well. My one big hang up is that this thing had that nasty looking gray anti fouling paint on the bottom of the hull. Then when the dealer got hold of it they power washed it. Needless to say that now the bottom half looks nasty as hell. I can have the bottom redone with the anti fouling paint but it'll cost me another grand. Issue 2 is that they had hydraulic trim tabs installed and the tabs now interfere with the transom straps. Not a huge issue for the previous owner as they kept the boat slipped at the marina but an issue for me since I'll be trailering it.

So my question is, knowing this thing was in the water all the time would this be an issue? What possible problems would I be facing in the future? What about all the anti fouling paint...can I have it all restored to stock? They even painted the entire lower unit with it that is now peeling off and looking like poop. Does this sound like too much of a headache or should I just lowball the pants off of em and see what I can get out of them?

Re: Question about hours.

Is this a local boat? Bottom paint could also indicate salt water, but I am guessing local slip. I'd post a question in the Restoration section about soda blasting or Peel Away and then polishing the bottom. The drive is easy to paint, so that doesn't bug me.

Issue 2 is that they had hydraulic trim tabs installed and the tabs now interfere with the transom straps.
This is a good thing!!! 1) you have tabs. Best addition to a v-hull boat you can find and 2) they were probably mounted in the right place if the straps interfere. 3) Move the straps, I've done it on 2 boats to accommodate tabs.

Re: Question about hours.

Yup totally local boat. Even the trailer has the decal from the local Four Winns dealer. I live in Vegas and this was slipped at Lake Mead. The dealer also owns the marina so they know the older couple that traded the bonat in. They actually traded it in for a new pontoon which fits their lifestyle a bit better and which is now slipped where this 200 was.

Thanks for the suggestion to ask in the restoration section.

Re: Question about hours.

The search is continuing, and I have come across a 2000 Wellcraft Excaliber SCS 20 footer with a Volvo 5.0 and duoprop. This one is over in Santa Barbabra Ca., so I'm of the mindset that folks in that part of the world aren't the types that would not have the money to properly maintain their boats. But it may have had most of its life in sea water.

So my question is...anyone have any input on the quality of the excaliber line? Theoretically speaking, if it had only been used in sea water for the last 11 years, what should I be on the lookout for?

As always, your help and wisdom is always appreciated.
