Question About Motor Height

I have a 2005 Bentley Cruise 200 with a 50 HP Mercury 2 stroke. The motor is mounted on the transom in such as fashion that it is not completely seated on the motor bracket. It is about 1 1/2 inches from being completely seated. If I look from the back the cavitation plate is about even with the bottom of the toons. The motor ventilates fairly badly. Even a turn that is not very sharp ventiates the prop. The motor stop is in the lowest hole. As I said, I could move the motor down about an inch and a half.
Would you guys recommend this?
Thanks.

Re: Question About Motor Height

If your venting that bad, I would lower down your motor as far as you could go. I am assumming that your tilt is down correctly, I am sure there will be others to chime in to help also.

Yeah, lower it. Whoever had it before you was probibly running in some really shallow water thus the high mount.

While you probably do need to lower the motor.Prop selection can combat venting and still allow the most height. Also if your prop is old, worn or damaged it may vent easily.
Of course lowering the motor probably won't cost you anything but a very slight increase in drag.

Re: Question About Motor Height

Is it a long shaft (20") because it needs to be. I dropped mine all the way down and the deck interfered with the steering shaft. Don't know if you'll have the same problem on a Bentley. A different prop with more cup may help. Is the motor a Bigfoot?
