Question about outdrive trim indicator?

So one problem the previous owner disclosed to me was that the trim gauge has never worked. He said he replaced all wireing to the sensores on the drive, but still no luck. In my searching on this forum I have found that the sensors (2) that are on either sides of the drive go bad? Where would I find replacement for these parts? I look in the online store here and saw nothing that matched what I was looking for.

Let me know where I can pick these guys up, or if you think my problem lies elsewere, please advise.

Re: Question about outdrive trim indicator?

Some information on your boat and outdrive would be helpful. In general though, the process of replacing the sending units is a little more difficult than just unscrewing the old ones and screwing the new ones on. Outdrives need to come off, bellows may need to be disconnected. Sometimes the new units just don't really last that long and the owner gets tired of the cost and hassle to replace them. Many boat owners just learn to trim by the feel of the boat.

Sorry, 1984 23' Wellcraft Aft Cabin, 260 Mercruiser Alpha 1.

So are you saying it it sometimes just easier to let this problem go? I am going to have the outdrive partially apart because I am going to replace the water impeller before it goes out this season.

I believe my limit switch is also failed. I have to hold down the trailer (aka bypass) switch to get the drive to trim. It trims in one direction without the "trailer" button, but not the other.

Thanks

Check where the wiring for those senders passes through the transom assembly and you may agree a functioning trim gage isn't that important. BTW one of those sensors is the Trim limit switch, the other is the trim indicator sensor. Both have to be adjusted correctly to function properly.

Thanks, I will look into it. If I were to replace the two senders, where could one buy them?
